Position Title: Formulation & Application Chemist I, II, III
Job Category: Coatings
Salary Range: $70,000 - $100,000
Eligibility: Must be U.S. Citizen or Resident
Job Overview: This position is focused on formulating and improving silicone-based release agents for wood composites. The role emphasizes hands-on application work, troubleshooting, and technical service, with minimal new product development (NPD). The ideal candidate will work closely with both internal departments and customers, providing critical support as technology transfers take place across lab functions. The daily work includes diverse projects and collaboration, making it an engaging and varied role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and formulate new products and enhance existing technologies to meet customer needs.
- Perform analytical testing and interpret results to support R&D objectives globally.
- Provide technical assistance to Sales, Plant Operations, QA/QC, and Purchasing.
- Create and improve products within the company portfolio quickly and effectively to satisfy client requirements.
- Deliver technical service to Sales and customers promptly.
- Prepare and analyze field samples to support product-line chemists and Technical Service/Sales teams in responding to customer inquiries.
- Conduct separation procedures to assess and quantify competitors' products.
- Coordinate with suppliers to identify and approve new raw materials.
- Document and summarize work in detailed technical reports.
- Attend customer trials to support product lines.
- Safely respond to any chemical spills and manage hazardous waste in line with environmental regulations.
- Conduct limited travel to customer sites for product evaluations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry required; Master’s degree preferred.
- 3–7 years of industry experience in formulating release agents or surface formulations. Knowledge of silicone, epoxy, and urethane chemistry is a plus.
- Experience with coatings or formulations that interact with wood substrates is highly desirable.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, liaise with customers and production teams, and collaborate across departments effectively.
Technical Skills:
- Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
- Strong organizational abilities with the capacity to set priorities and meet deadlines.
- Skilled in both verbal and written communication.
