Product Technology Engineer

This role provides product technology and process-engineering assistance and supports the implementation of new products at the company.  This person provides technological assistance, guidance and troubleshooting to the New Product Development and Manufacturing Process.  This role works cross functional including but not limited to Production, Quality Assurance, Engineering and Marketing.  This position is responsible to provide the factory with critical operating parameters for new and improved processes and formulas to ensure the products are manufactured complying with the company’s high quality standards and approved specifications.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate or support scale up activities to ensure a successful launch of new product or processes and handover from product development to production
  • Lead or conduct trials and first production runs for new products, processes and process improvements to validate feasibility and reproducibility
  • Monitor recipe adherence of new and existing products to ensure consistent quality, consistent costing and FDA regulation compliances
  • Assist Operation with troubleshooting for existing and new product processes
  • Work with Production, Marketing, Engineering, QA, D2C, Finance, as a technological resource
  • Ensure optimal-quality, throughput and profitability through optimization of process parameters during product development and improvement projects. Apply statistical analysis and modeling during process improvements
  • Facilitate technological knowledge base of colleagues in own or other departments through training and education

Documentation & Reporting

  • Create and improve process documentation and policies to ensure consistent quality of the products produced at the company
  • Maintain precise and appropriate documentation to assure reproducibility of results and transparency to all involved parties
  • Apply scientific methodology, use of root cause and statistical analysis tools to support recommendations for sustainable process and product improvements

General

  • Work independently with a minimum of guidance to meet the company objectives
  • Collaborate with peers across the company global as well as outside organizations to develop and exploit viable new process opportunities and define best in class processes and technologies
  • Identify evolving technologies through publications, participation in professional organizations, attending trade shows, seminars and continuing technological education to support innovation at the company
  • Assist R&D/QA department with projects as assigned

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications

Experience:

  • 5+ years working knowledge in food industry or related fields
  • 2+ years working knowledge in chocolate industry
  • Experience with processing technology, complexity of products and machinery in food industry
  • Experience in product development
  • Experience in premium consumer goods a plus

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong technical knowledge of food processing
  • Firm understanding of chocolate process (Bean to Bar)
  • Knowledge of quality management systems a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills required, strong focus on results
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas, concepts and procedures on all levels of the organization
  • Ability to multi task in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical and root cause problem solving skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong computer skills. Proficient working knowledge of MS Office applications

Education:

  • BS degree required in Food Science or equivalent
  • MS degree a plus
  • Formal training in sanitation, food safety, regulatory
  • QMS Training, a plus (i.e. ISO 9000, BRC, IFS)
