Description

The Reliability Engineer conducts an analysis of reliability problems and investigates to determine the required reliability approach with consideration to the cost impact for equipment uptime/downtime, repair/replacement costs and complexity, and availability of materials/equipment/personnel.                                                                                                                                                                                        The successful person must be able to work independently as well as with teams to support production operations and implement projects that achieve department and corporate goals.                                                  Must be able to independently troubleshoot issues, define project scope, and execute on assigned action items, interact with contractors and vendors. A sound understanding of engineering best practices is required.        This position reports to the Engineering and Maintenance Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Works under the general direction of the Engineering and Maintenance Manager in performing detailed reliability studies and calculations of component/system reliabilities
  • Develops and maintains critical spare parts list
  • Develops preventive maintenance programs, composition and schedule, audits work performed by maintenance personnel for adherence to standards and schedule, evaluates effectiveness, and modifies plans as necessary to deliver required machine uptime
  • Develops and conducts predictive maintenance programs where appropriate
  • Develop and execute mechanical integrity program in support of the site’s PSM program
  • Performs root cause analysis on equipment failures to prevent recurrence
  • Recommend, specify & requisition major equipment items such as heat exchangers & pumps
  • Perform equipment process design and mechanical design review
  • Participate in process hazard and operability studies (HAZOP)
  • Develop safe job operating procedures and maintenance manuals
  • Convey mechanical design details to drafting personnel for the preparation of fabrication and layout drawings considering operability, maintenance, and safety

Experience/ Education/ Skills

  • BS, Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of experience in a chemical or plastics manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in plant reliability performing preventive & predictive maintenance
  • Track record of solving problems that result in improved on stream time & decreased operating cost
  • Practical experience utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems
  • Strong process troubleshooting skills
  • Thorough knowledge of Mechanical Engineering discipline
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to use AutoCAD
  • Uses appropriate engineering methods as well as theoretical and empirical techniques in the design of new processes (SPC and DOE)
  • Strong report writing skills to create project evaluations and justifications
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to analyze data and perform cost/benefit analyses
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to develop realistic project timeline based on equipment delivery, manpower availability and plant outage availability
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize MS-Excel to analyze data and other computer applications such as MS-Word, MS-PowerPoint, MS-Project, Mini-Tab and e-mail
  • Ability to utilize Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
  • Practical working knowledge of statistics
  • Problem-solve (analyze data, determine root causes, develop implementation plans) and resolve issues which are affecting quality or throughput
  • Demonstrated leadership skills; strong initiative and ability to work with minimum supervision
