Job Description

Technical Services Development Engineer

The Technical Services Development Engineer will have the following responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership to research and/or develop systems, products, or processes for a variety of assigned projects, and projects assigned include a wide variety of product, quality, statistical and environmentally oriented subjects
  • Work independently, schedule and supervise technicians used for internal data acquisition, and provide oversight and guidance to consultants used to enhance effort on the various projects
  • Apply scientific and engineering principles for research programs involving product development, processing, manufacturing technology, quality control, and packaging
  • Manage projects and maintains constant communication with cross functional groups to drive projects from concept through commercialization
  • Be responsible for documentation to ensure the consistent manufacture of new products; including batch records, production instructions, validation and stability protocols
  • Work with Quality Assurance to ensure all product documentation is written, stored, and approved for commercial manufacture; includes material specifications, material CoA's, product specifications, cleaning requirements, method validations, etc.
  • Develop formulations and processes to support the development of new and novel products and/or optimization of existing products
  • Be responsible for the coordination and execution of bench-top, pilot, manufacturing scale-up and verification batches with speed and robustness
  • Effectively navigate through complex formulation & technical challenges 
  • Maintain accurate records of all development projects
  • Prepare all relevant technical documents such as raw material and bulk specifications, SOP's, manufacturing batch records, technology transfer documents and any other relevant documents in the development and commercialization of the products
  • Conduct research to develop new and improved manufacturing processes
  • Develop safety procedures for those working with dangerous chemicals
  • Help design and plan the layout of equipment
  • Conduct tests and monitor the performance of processes throughout production
  • Troubleshoot problems with manufacturing processes
  • Support plant processes and is available as Technical Specialist for plant processes
  • Evaluate equipment and processes to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations
  • Estimate production costs for management
  • Assist in maintaining plant Sample Manager Program
  • Work with customers and plant operations personnel to identify and remediate product quality concerns

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • Competence in interpreting and understanding scientific and technical literature and reporting findings in application-oriented reports and presentations
  • Preferred educational level includes a Bachelor’s level Engineering background, with principal emphasis toward chemistry or processing
  • Three to five years of experience in industrial or development-related work is desirable for process alternatives evaluation
  • Demonstrated strong depth of research knowledge and skills with the ability to statistically analyze data
  • Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in product/process development, processing laboratory techniques and regulatory requirements and a firm foundation in chemistry, mathematics, pharmaceutical and/or food science
  • Ability to trouble-shoot and provide workable solutions to highly complex formulations
  • Solid analytical skills using tools such as statistics, downtime tracking, mechanical history, project planning, etc. when identifying opportunity areas
  • Proven ability to use innovative approaches to solve complex problems
  • Results oriented with proven track record of accomplishments
  • Proficient in AutoCad, PowerPoint, MS Project, Excel and Word
  • An understanding of current and new technologies for manufacturing, including controls and automation
  • Ability to analyze data and information, and to make effective and timely decisions
  • Thorough understanding of engineering economics and statistics is necessary
  • Ability to use state of the art computing equipment (PC's and software programs) is needed for efficiency and accuracy of statistical, economic and like mathematic requirements
  • Ability to design/format record programs using standard software is desirable for establishing permanent uniform records systems that allow key punch data entry
  • Design, construction, or maintenance experience is desirable for materials of construction evaluation
  • Fertilizer Industry areas of specific expertise knowledge is desirable, as more broad experience with good technical judgment
  • Working knowledge of a wide variety of technical fields, is desirable
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills as well as well-developed organizational abilities
  • Strong project, problem-solving and time management skills
  • Ability to work with others to identify opportunities
  • Ability to work under pressure and to react to situations with a strong sense of urgency
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment
  • Solid problem-solving, project management, multi-tasking and prioritizations skills
  • Detail-oriented, organized, reliable and resourceful
