Technology Manager
The R&D Technology Manager will be responsible for communicating technical requirements in the beginning stages of the product development process; provide product, process, scale-up recommendations and identification of manufacturing assets required for new product launches. This position supports the transition and completion of launching new products. Additionally, this role ensures alignment with plant capabilities based on trial outcomes, design intent, and any capital improvements. As needed, the role will develop solutions to technical challenges discovered in the early development of a product. They will also fill a project management role for the pilot workstream including leading a cross functional team from pilot request through to shipment of complaint samples. The position communicates and interacts across the organization to launch new products. This role requires heavy travel, particularly during NPD and start up, to ensure success of new product launches or processing lines.
What You Will Do
- Lead new process development initiatives from fuzzy front end early development through commercialization
- Responsible for providing product and process design recommendations, scale-up conceptualization, and identification of manufacturing assets needed to support new product launches across different technologies including Aseptic
- Leverage cross functional partners across innovation, marketing, operations, and engineering, to drive process needs on innovation and brand maintenance projects
- Responsible for process led troubleshooting initiatives, creating and executing design of experiments, and driving technical solutions with innovation counterparts to resolve any challenges with new formulations and tweaking same through the process
- Act as a technical resource liaison located at the manufacturing facilities for the Innovation Team as the processing subject matter expert through a developed working knowledge of the existing fully scaled equipment and processes
- Document the processing instructions for fully scaled new products to be commercialized and be able to revise or crease HMI/BCI programming for the manufacturing operation as needed to support new products
- Provide onsite support for trials/launches as dictated by the risk and design challenges of the project
- Collaborate with Engineering and Manufacturing teams to ensure manufacturing standards
- Provide analytical reports on new product launches evaluating process capability through critical quality data over time
- Consult with quality and provides recommendations on specification ranges needed and/or changes that need to be made with the customer to ensure process capable specifications are created and maintained for company manufacturing
- Keep the organization abreast of technical processing innovations and applies them appropriately to positively impact the business. Attends trade shows and monitors technical advances in the food industry
- Support production size pilots and trials as the subject matter expert in partnership with the R&D Food Scientist in processing instructions, formula adjustments, change documentation, etc.

Job Requirements
Technical Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Food Engineering or related
- A minimum of five (5+) years of experience as a process development engineer or food innovation developer, or combination
- A majority of applicable experience needs to be in the food and beverage manufacturing industry and more specifically in the liquid categories
- Previous experience leading new product and packaging initiatives in the food industry
- Experience in new plant technology transfer and build out is a huge plus. Some experience with regulatory authorities (OSHA, EPA, USDA) also highly desired
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a food manufacturing environment production environment (ex. Scale-ups, start-ups) desired
- Experience working in SAP, Project Management tools
- The ideal candidate will have experience collaborating with multiple functions including commercial teams, R&D, Manufacturing, Engineering, and EHS/Quality
- Experience in Aseptic manufacturing or processing
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Ability to travel up to 50% domestically to our manufacturing facilities and vendor sites
- Knowledge of processing and filling equipment with ability to operate required equipment to fulfill pilot batching & filling
- Excellent communication to deliver clear perspectives on complex formulation and processing requirements
- A pro-active, high-energy attitude, with a bias towards action
- Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple projects and priorities at once, delegating effectively
