Analytical Scientist

The Analytical Scientist will have the following responsibilities:

  • Provide support to plant operations in resolving production upsets and providing methodology
  • Perform as a member of an extended team encompassing multiple sites and a wide array of chemical analysis needs
  • Supports the development of new products and resolving customer concerns; interact closely with Synthesis, Global R&D, Technical Support & Development and plant QC groups
  • Maintains a laboratory notebook, provide insightful analysis reports, prepare monthly project reports and utilize LIMS database
  • Maintains company safety standards and lives the company values
  • Develop network throughout the regional and global business as recognized expert in separations techniques
  • Will be a member of the regional MAS EC group
  • Will be a member of the regional TS&D reporting line
  • Will be responsible for maintenance and upkeep of laboratory instrumentation to assure best possible performance and reliability

  • Masters or PhD
  • 5-7 years of industry experience in analytical instrumentation and analytical method development
  • Significant research record in Chromatography and demonstrated history of chromatographic method development using a variety of isolation / concentration techniques
  • Experience in the area of organic small molecule and polymer analysis
  • Experience in the creation and adaptation of analytical methods
  • Experience specifically in small molecule, surfactant and polymer analysis is desirable
  • The candidate should have hands on experience with much of the listed chromatography instrumentation or similar instrumentation
  • Strong computer skills. Base expectation is ability to operate MS Office suite of programs and all necessary instrumentation data collection / analysis software
  • Ability to apply statistical measures to data analysis
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair instruments
  • The successful candidate should have a deep background in chemistry and significant operational experience with all chromatographic analytical instrumentation (GPC, LC, LC/MS, GC, GC/MS) applied in an industrial setting. Demonstrated ability in chemical / physical procedures for isolation of impurities, optimal instrument configuration for the specific chemical matrix and the application of statistical data analysis methods are required
  • The chromatography instruments the candidate will be responsible for using and maintaining includes: Agilent GC’s and GC/MS, Agilent LC’s, Agilent Q-TOF, Wyatt GPC/MALS, and Dionex IC.  Chromatography software includes:  Agilent Chemstation and Mass Hunter, Perkin Elmer Total Chrom, and Wyatt Astra
  • There is a strong preference for a practical person who is hands on in the laboratory and focused on achieving results
  • The candidate will have to possess good interpersonal skills enabling them to interact productively with colleagues and customers. The job will require little travel
  • Strong work ethic, good oral and written communication skills, and proficient in Microsoft Office programs
