Analytical Sr. R&D Chemist – Mass Spec Focused

This position is for a technical leader in GC/MS qualitative analysis, headspace analysis, and other GC techniques.  The applicant would also provide LC/MS qualitative and quantitative analysis support.  The role includes assigned projects under the supervision of a senior R&D team member or manager as well as independent studies, managing analytical projects, and contributing to large / complex projects with other team members.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as GC/MS expert in structural elucidation and qualitative analysis
  • Method development for standard GC and GC-headspace experiments
  • Provide qualitative and quantitative LC/MS support
  • Teach and mentor others in mass spec and GC techniques
  • Participate in technical project reviews and present findings as appropriate
  • Engage with assigned teams and cross-functional stakeholders, such as process development, plants, EHS, mechanical and R&DS strategic business units (SBU)
  • Keep up to date in current relevant technology related to analytical techniques and petroleum additive and lubricant technology
  • Maintain accurate written documentation in accordance with established procedures and ensure objectivity and accuracy in reporting and recording data
  • Understand, comply, and promote safe laboratory and work practices, including appropriate safety regulations and procedures
  • Participate in company Quality Management system including maintenance of documentation related to appropriate ISO standards
  • Represent the company as needed in technical conferences, societies, and other industry activities

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • Expert level knowledge and understanding of GC/MS & LC/MS analytical chemistry. That would be obtained with 5+ years’ PhD or 10+ years’ BS/MS with relevant industrial experience
  • Structural elucidation, GC Headspace, and method development
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
