Chemical Process Engineer
Job Description
Small privately held Midwestern company that is a world leader in polymer innovation and floor care technology has an opening for a Process Engineer. The primary focus of the company has been in floor care products but they have expanded their product line to create specialty polymers and resins for diverse customers in industries from floor finishes, paints, concrete, plastics, detergents, adhesives & printing ink technologies.
The Process Engineer is responsible for providing chemical operations and technical support for polymer and coating production areas. Will manage and execute smaller capital projects. Will occasionally work with chemists and operators to ensure successful product transitions during scale-up activities
- Champion process improvement efforts including debottleneck of existing constrained processes, optimization of same processes, efficiency improvements, cost reductions, safety and environmental improvements, waste reductions, introduction or new equipment and/or technology
- Manage and execute smaller capital projects (projects could be anywhere from $10K - $200K initially)
- Manage/assist in the design, procurement, and implementation of capital projects. Develop project scope, prepare project funding packages, preliminary engineering design work, coordinate construction/installation, oversee project budgets, manage project costs/schedules, start-up & training activities in production
- Communicate/discuss/coordinate with management, engineering, other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, projects to facilitate production processes
- Assist with new product/process introduction activities, including production scale-up of new polymers, assimilation of new/revised processes into the manufacturing facility

Job Requirements
- BS Chemical Engineer
- Minimum 5 years up to about 10 years of chemical plant experience
- Ideally experience out of a batch polymerization processes/plant
- Will consider batch specialty chemicals & other chemical backgrounds with liquids and transferring liquids in a facility
- Should have been a Production, Process &/or Project Engineer and provided daily technical support to production at some point in their careers
- Would like examples of process improvement efforts, optimization of processes, efficiency improvements, cost reductions, safety and environmental improvements, waste reductions
- Would like examples of managing/executing smaller capital projects anywhere from $10K - $200K
- Any experience with PLC’s, and data acquisition systems would be a big plus
- PSM experience is preferred
- Knowledge of Safety and Environmental Compliance is preferred
