Chemist, Non-Woven

The Chemist, Non-Woven will support service to customer accounts in the Engineered Fabrics group.  Customer support includes commercial product development, aiding product selection and dispersion handling and processing, introducing new product and application technology, and trouble-shooting any product / process related issues experienced in commercial production.

The Chemist, Non-Woven, will initiate support and drive new product development based on market information and knowledge.  This includes acting as a liaison between research or production organization and customer or end user needs for development of new or existing commercial products.

The Chemist, Non-Woven will provide technical expertise to customers related to Engineered Fabrics, including product knowledge and recommendations, introduction to new technology, and aiding in solving customer problems.  Manage internal product Nonwovens and Paper Coatings market areas.  Maintain strong safety focus for self and direct reports supporting the broader safety organization.  Good electronic and verbal communication – internal and external – is required.  Supervision, performance management, and development of direct reports are important to this position.

  • Key technical liaison to customer, managing the relationship, along with account/sales representative. Insure the appropriate dispersion product is recommended and correctly used in the customer’s process to meet end use application needs.  Respond to service requests and develop technical work packages to answer such requests.  Contribute to complaint investigation and resolution as appropriate
  • Supervise support technician (as available) and work to use and develop key lab skills to meet technical service requests of nonwovens segment
  • Drive product development in the Engineered Fabrics market – new or customer-driven – to meet customer, end use, and/or general market needs. Both Nonwovens and Paper Coatings areas are applicable
  • Support and follow company Environmental, Health, and Safety guidelines to insure a safe work environment, and compliance with global regulatory agencies related to day-to-day AD/TS operations
  • Support global segment through strong AD/TS lab operations and procedures for the Engineered Fabrics group. Also support global benchmarking of key EF group products, including conforming to external product disclosures, meeting established product specifications, and product performance targets

  • Bachelor’s Degree required – Chemistry, Material Science, Polymer Science or related
  • 3-7 years direct industry experience in the field of Engineered Fabrics is preferred, but general experience is an applications development / technical service role is generally valuable. Some experience in a customer facing role is desired; the incumbent must possess or quickly develop customer relationship skills
  • General knowledge of Engineered Fabrics / Nonwovens as well as Paper making or Paper Coating including product portfolio and application technologies. Understanding of general regulatory requirements of products in this specific market area.  Knowledge of laboratory tests associated with Nonwovens, as well as lab safety practices and policies
  • Strong technical skills related to application and product development
  • Customer relationship skills and problem solving
  • Broad communication skills – internal and external, written and email – are important to job effectiveness, and building good internal and customer relationships
  • Organizational skills and follow-through are important to all aspects of this job. Prioritization and adapting to changing priorities are important in this role due to ever-changing customer and plant needs
  • Possess ability to think creatively when working with customers in new or existing applications. It is necessary to adapt to specific customer needs, process setup, or final end use applications, to aid in the development of new products, or to solve customer or product problems
