Chemist / Senior Chemist

The Chemist / Sr. Chemist will have the following responsibilities:

  • Synthesize new compounds, monomers, and polymers
  • Utilize standard polymerization techniques (emulsion, solution, condensation, anionic)
  • Perform standard organic chemistry procedures such as continuous extraction, re-crystallization, fractional distillation, wet-chromatography techniques (TLC & wet column)
  • Provide guidance on organic reaction mechanisms as they pertain to company products and processes
  • Interpret data generated using the structural determination tools of organic chemistry (i.e. NMR)
  • Manage intellectual property (patent searches, interpretation of patent claims, patent reports, etc.)
  • Provide recommendations on the purchase of standard chemistry glassware & equipment
  • Utilize excellent Project Management skills to define, plan, schedule and control the tasks that must be completed to reach project goal(s)
  • Apply knowledge of chemistry to support operations and new product development efforts
  • Comply with good laboratory practices, safety and environmental regulations
  • Write thorough technical reports
  • Actively support all safety programs and initiatives
  • Support 5S housekeeping programs
  • Utilize excellent Project Management skills to define, plan, schedule and control the tasks that must be completed to reach the project goal
  • Coach team members continuously build their skill base

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer or Material Science (MS degree preferred)
  • Minimum of three years of experience in Research & Development. Prefer five years of experience in an organic/polymer synthesis lab environment, preferably in the pressure-sensitive tape industry
  • Minimum of three years of production experience in preparative chemistry, organic / polymer synthesis or a related area
  • Knowledge of polymer structure-property relationships
  • Proven project management leader with a high success rate
  • Innovative, organized self-starter with good problem-solving skills
  • Collaborative interpersonal style with experience in leading project teams
  • Excellent communication skills
