Job Description

Chemist I

Under direct supervision, conducts research, analysis, synthesis, and experimentation on substances to develop new products, new technology development, new manufacturing technology development and production improvement. 


  • Working with supervision, advance R&D project(s) and suggest, initiate or propose product designs which will meet the quality standards in the customer’s requirements and the process design to create the newly developed product.
  • Under the direction of supervision, complete R&D projects within original due dates, by clarifying problems, suggesting countermeasures and managing the project timeline.
  • Working with the sales and business development team, gain the knowledge of the required properties and application of the projects, clearly define the value difference between new items and competitive items; calculate profitability of new item.
  • Under the direction of supervision, gain the knowledge to plan and lead projects; understand all background information, clarify problems in the R&D process, suggest countermeasures, develop project timeline and complete the project within the original timeframe.
  • Perform job responsibilities in compliance with Quality management system.
  • Through lab work, develop and suggest new product(s) which can meet the customer’s requirements. Performing, new raw material study(s) and creating new measurement method(s) may be required.
  • In the process design, assist in the development of the manufacturing process, optimize process conditions and verify productivity.
  • Assist in the researching of new developing item, filing patent application, and managing all documentation requirements.
  • Prepare quality control documents (standards and specifications) and safety operation manual for the manufacturing/production process.
  • Issue technical reports based on R&D study and present in conjunction with leadership to customers.
  • Conduct research of new raw material, new technical trends, new market trends and patent information to increase product value.
  • Interface with cross functional groups to gain knowledge in obtaining business opportunities.
  • Act as a role model for the R&D technicians, providing technical mentorship when required.

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from four-year college or university in chemistry; polymer chemistry preferred. Masters a plus.  Minimum of 0-3 years related experience in a manufacturing company with focus on polymer science, adhesive technology, rubber material science or epoxy resin technology; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Scientific basic knowledge: Basic Chemistry (Organic material, Inorganic material, polymer material).  Preferred basic physics (polymer physics, Rheology, Phenomenology) Analytical Chemistry
  • Requires a good understanding and being capable of operating needed test equipment to automotive specifications
  • Ability to design, plan and execute experiments based upon scientific methods
  • Very collaborative environment, very big on teamwork
