Chemist

Responsibilities:

  • Formulate innovative products utilizing companies core technologies
  • Plan polymer synthesis experiments with guidance from the Sr. Scientist
  • Manufacture production scale intermediates
  • Conduct HPLC analysis of synthesized products
  • Assist in the scale-up of viable polymers to plant operations
  • Work with sales/marketing staff to provide product formulations for end users
  • Assist health and safety personnel by providing technical guidance to shape safety policy and compliance issues
  • Complete daily development tasks in the direction of the Resin Production Supervisor
  • Provide analytical support to senior company leadership
  • Assist coating formulators by fielding questions regarding cure mechanisms, filler package composition, and environmental effects
  • Provide timely feedback to plant personnel in all areas of chemical competency
  • Provide guidance and instruction to all company personnel regarding safely handling chemical, intermediates, and waste streams
  • Assemble, install, and operate synthetic apparatus
  • Utilize analytic techniques to determine polymer molecular weights and other chemical characteristics as necessary
  • Provide cost estimates for formulated products and synthesized polymers
  • Conduct method development for the analysis of incoming raw materials
  • Willingness and ability to safely handle hazardous chemicals, including hazardous gases, in high-pressure systems
  • Maintain organized documentation and file structures
  • Ability to work in a team atmosphere and contribute to team goals
  • Communicate technical information to varied audiences, including customers, potential customers, vendors, and fellow employees
  • Resolve complaints from varied customer, employee, and vendor groups
  • Work safely in compliance with company’s Safety and Environmental rules and regulations

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in chemistry, chemical engineering
  • 2-3+ years of waterborne coating formulation
  • Emulsion preparation and emulsion polymerization experience preferred
  • Ability to safely handle hazardous chemicals, including hazardous gases, in high-pressure systems
