Coatings Applications Scientist / Project Manager

Have you developed Industrial Coatings for metal?  Are you versed in various additives that enhance performance?  This growing and well-funded company is looking to add an experienced Coatings Chemist who will lead application development for Industrial Coatings in Automotive, GI, and Aerospace paints.  This will be a hands-on role and will work with customers to tailor high performance solutions for their products!  As the sales grow, you will also begin hiring additional staff.  CANNOT beat the location either!!!

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Designing and executing of projects with hands on development with a group of chemists and material scientists on the applied product development of company’s patented graphene in polymeric coating systems
  • Develop the resources necessary to expand the R&D capability to provide testing and validation data on graphene-loaded formulations for target markets
  • Identify representative final product formulations for target markets and develop formulas and the appropriate data related to the benefits of the addition of graphene into products, with an initial focus on corrosion resistant coatings, but also for other polymer materials and products as opportunities develop
  • Direct customers on technical issues by assisting business development team in communicating technical aspects of utilizing graphene, particularly in the addition and dispersion of the product into the customers’ products and in the evaluation of the final products; relevant properties
  • Provide technical support to Business Development, Sales/Marketing and Production groups in support of application testing, customer acceptance, quality control and product scale-up
  • Establish key lab practices, Standard Operating Procedures and adherence to safety protocols

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in chemistry, materials science, polymer science, chemical engineering or equivalent discipline, preferred Master of Science or PhD of Science
  • Eight or more years of experience in a similar function with formulation and testing of coating systems. 3-5 years of experience with specific, appropriate education will be considered
  • Experience formulating and testing waterborne coatings
  • Strong organic or polymer chemistry knowledge in coatings with experience in solvent borne, UV-cured and 2k highly desired
  • Deep understanding of coating testing and qualification metrics and testing and experience in assessment of performance especially in context of structure-property relationships
  • Strong knowledge of on the chemistry and use of pigments and coating additives, especially those used for corrosion inhibition
  • Previous experience with nanomaterials, especially carbons, and experience with adhesives, sealants, elastomers and foams a plus
  • Intimate knowledge of raw materials, suppliers and coating markets a plus
