Color Manager – Wood Coatings

Bring your Wood Coatings color experience to this growing company!  Lead the Color development platform and be part of an incredible group of successful people!

Will supervise 6 and lead color development for the two manufacturing locations for applications in OEM Kitchen Cabinet wood coatings, and for furniture.  In addition to managing one more person at the Distribution site.  The team develops colors, color matches, and formulates colorants for customer driven needs.

PURPOSE AND MISSION:
The purpose and function of the Color Manager is to support our internal and external customers by providing color styling, color matching, and delivery of tinted products in all coatings technologies that meet the expectations of our customers within a reasonable timeframe.

The Color Manager is expected to develop, oversee, and implement an industry leading corporate color program that meets current and future industry demands and that will surpass our customers’ expectation in color accuracy and timing.

AUTHORITY:
The Color Manager is granted the necessary authority to manage, direct and administer the operations under the control of this position.  This authority includes, but may not be limited to:

  • With adequate information, this position may provide color recommendations and make decisions relative to the delivery of products. Verify that procedures are followed in all locations and oversee all nonmanufacturing related color processes and tinting

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position oversees all personnel in the Color Department and manages all custom color development of coatings at all locations while verifying that proper standard laboratory and internal procedures are followed. Product development includes all stains, glazes, tinted sealers, wash-coats, and topcoats in all technologies.  These include:  conversion varnish, pre-catalyzed and post-catalyzed lacquers, nitrocellulose lacquers, waterborne, UV, 2K, urethanes, and 2K acrylics
  • Position will review and approve all incoming color related projects and organize the completion of the project in a reasonable time frame
  • Align internal application procedures with external customer procedures to assure accurate color matches and customer satisfaction
  • Work it concert with the R&D staff in the formulation and testing of all tint bases
  • Work with our software vendors in managing color formulation databases
  • Provides guidance to operations as well as color staff in investigating and resolving color problems
  • Manage daily custom color matches as well assist as needed in approval of plant batches
  • Provides technical training for staff as approved by management
  • Organize and maintain customer color projects
  • Follow company policies and procedures
  • Present a professional image at all times to customers and vendors
  • Provide timely feedback and recommendations to the company regarding service failures or customer concerns in relations to color

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • Be able to produce results with little direct supervision
  • Possess a thorough understanding of color measurement and color measurement devices
  • Possess broad knowledge of matching colors in the following technologies: conversion varnish, pre-catalyzed and post-catalyzed lacquers, nitrocellulose lacquers, waterborne, UV, 2K urethanes, and 2k acrylics
  • Perform in-field and on-site color support related tasks
  • Possess excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Be a proactive problem solver
  • Be able to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • Be self-motivated and goal oriented
  • Possess a high work ethic, moral and personal integrity and honesty
  • Be mature, flexible and self-motivated
  • Exemplify professionalism in personal appearance, manner and dress according to acceptable standards set by the company
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must be able to see color and pass a color test
  • Must be equipment literate, and be familiar with working with scales, color-wheels, and color matching computer software
  • Must be application equipment literate including but not limited to: Conventional air spray, AA Airless, HVLP, Reciprocating, and fixed head spray equipment
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office related products, especially Microsoft Excel and Word
