Job Description

Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consulting Actuary with expertise in Other Postemployment Benefits (OPEB) and Multiple Employer Plans (MEPs). The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of actuarial principles, pension accounting standards, and regulatory requirements. In addition, the candidate should possess specialized knowledge in at least one of the following accounting standards: GASB 74/75, FASB ASC 715, FASB ASC 958, or FASB ASC 965.

As a Consulting Actuary, you will work closely with our clients, providing actuarial consulting services to support their OPEB and MEPs programs. You will analyze complex actuarial data, evaluate financial risks, and develop strategies to manage pension liabilities and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards. Your expertise will play a crucial role in guiding our clients' financial decisions, optimizing their retirement benefit programs, and helping them achieve their long-term financial objectives.

Responsibilities:

  1. Actuarial Analysis: Perform in-depth actuarial analysis on OPEB and MEPs programs, including data collection, assumptions development, and financial modeling. Evaluate and interpret actuarial results to provide actionable recommendations to clients.
  2. Pension Liabilities and Funding: Assess and manage pension liabilities and funding requirements for clients' OPEB and MEPs plans. Develop strategies to optimize funding levels, balance risk, and achieve long-term financial sustainability.
  3. Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards such as GASB 74/75, FASB ASC 715, FASB ASC 958, or FASB ASC 965. Prepare accurate and timely actuarial valuations, financial statements, and disclosures in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  4. Risk Assessment and Management: Identify and analyze financial risks associated with OPEB and MEPs plans. Develop risk mitigation strategies and provide recommendations to clients for risk management and reduction.
  5. Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, serving as a trusted advisor on actuarial matters. Collaborate closely with client teams to understand their unique needs, provide expert guidance, and deliver exceptional customer service.
  6. Team Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including actuaries, consultants, and other professionals, to ensure seamless execution of projects. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
  7. Industry Knowledge and Thought Leadership: Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging regulations, and best practices related to OPEB and MEPs. Contribute to the development of intellectual capital, thought leadership, and innovative solutions within the actuarial consulting field.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certifications (e.g., ASA, FSA, EA) are highly desirable.
  • Extensive experience working as an actuary, with a focus on OPEB and MEPs. Strong knowledge of actuarial principles, pension accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following accounting standards: GASB 74/75, FASB ASC 715, FASB ASC 958, or FASB ASC 965.
  • Proficiency in actuarial software and tools (e.g., Excel, SQL, actuarial modeling software).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle complex actuarial calculations and interpret results effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex actuarial concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong project management abilities, including the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple concurrent projects.
