Controller
Job Description
The Controller will lead a team of eight and is responsible for directing the organization's accounting functions and providing financial support to the operations team. He/she will be responsible for all accounting functions; general accounting, accounts payable, cost accounting, payroll, and credit management functions while ensuring total compliance with state and federal reporting and controls. This person will also serve as financial business partner to the operations group providing all necessary cost and financial analytical support and serve as primary interface with external audit and tax firm. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.
Role & Responsibilities
Organizational Effectiveness
- Work with CFO to establish, resolve, measure, and communicate the departmental goals and objectives.
- Works with the VP of Operations to provide necessary financial and analytical information to support achievement of operational excellence.
- Work with CFO to establish and evolve job requirements (including company values and ethics) for all departmental staff members.
- Ensure that all personnel under his/her responsibility are cross-trained and continually employ a thorough working knowledge of all accounting, finance, and credit processes.
Departmental Effectiveness
- Establish and evolve the procedures that drive the day-to-day departmental business practices including the workflow (data input and computer tools), decision making guidelines (policies), and performance measures (individual and process).
- Act as the resident expert for all accounting, credit, and finance corporate policy.
- Oversee month-end and other financial reporting processes and ensure timely and accurate input from departmental staff.
- Responsible for overseeing standard cost maintenance and related reporting.
- Work closely with Business Analysts to resolve system issues and continuously improve ERP system and related tools.
- Consistently analyzes financial data and communicates findings promptly to leadership and other relevant parties.
- Stays current with relevant audit and tax issues and ensures compliance with all reporting and filing requirements.
- Coordinates year end audits with external accounting firm and ensures no major adjustments.
- Hires, orients, supervises, and evaluates staff under direct and indirect supervision.
- Keeps the Chief Financial Officer informed on the status of departmental and organizational operations.
Management Effectiveness
Serve as an effective member of the management team by:
- Contributing to the development and evolution of the Accounting team.
- Serves as financial partner to Operations team providing all necessary financial support and analysis.
- Collaborate with colleagues on special projects related to organizational development.
- Communicating financial results to operations and leadership teams.
- Working with leaders throughout the business to understand and educate them on how finance and accounting can support their operations.

Job Requirements
Qualifications
- CPA or MBA required.
- 8 - 12 years of progressive financial management experience, most recently in a manufacturing controllership type role.
- Experience with being a Controller for multiple locations
- Having both domestic and international experience
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products.
- Experience with an ERP system required
- Experience overseeing external auditors and tax preparers.
- Experience in a manufacturing standard cost environment.
