Job Description
Leading manufacturer in the northern Chicago suburbs is seeking a Cost Accountant to join their growing finance and accounting time.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions):
- Manage the month-end close process for manufacturing activities by performing required journal entries as they relate to cost-of sales, variable and fixed costs, warranty, obsolescence, inventory, and all manufacturing production variances
- Prepare monthly and quarterly account reconciliations and schedules as they relate to labor, inventory, scrap, cost of sales, and production variances
- Analyze production labor and overhead absorption
- Assist in the preparation and presentation of weekly plant forecasts
- Together with Data Control, Engineering, and the New Product Development team, support product costing activities by validating and entering all bill of material and routing changes for new and existing product as it relates to the Crystal Lake production facility
- Support all plant costing activities for new and existing product as they relate to BOM structure verification and changes, routing changes, time studies, and verification of labor content
- Maintain and prepare analyses on direct labor efficiency and productivity
- Work with the Plant Controller on scheduling and managing the annual standard cost review to update the plant’s labor and overhead rates
- Maintain standard costs based on ECN reviews that result in cost changes
- Manage and maintain regular BOM review cadence with appropriate departments
- Oversee the employee purchase program including the verification of product price, validation of payment method and payment receipt, recording of purchase, and management of green tagging system
- Record, track, and reconcile weekly scrap collections and recoveries
- Track appropriation requests and monitor actual to budget progress
- Ensure that vendor invoices are being approved by plant personnel in a timely manner by monitoring the aged pending invoices for approval report and communicating any issues to the appropriate stakeholder(s)
- Safeguarding the plant’s fixed assets by properly tracking, tagging, and analyzing all fixed assets and ensuring that the plant follows established procedures for the acquisition and disposal of assets
- Assist in the preparation of quarterly forecasts and the annual budget
- Assist in the preparation and execution of the annual physical inventory
- Assist with the preparation and delivery of information supporting the annual external audit
- Serve as a back-up to the Plant Controller as necessary for the month-end close process, PFR preparation, or transmission of financial data to Corporate

Job Requirements
Qualifications
Experience & Education:
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field of study required
- Two to five years’ experience in Cost Accounting required
- Recent college graduates will also be considered
- Plant manufacturing environment strongly desired
