Customer Development Manager (CDM) Midwest

Responsible to the National Commercial Director, the individual will be responsible to lead all aspects of the Sales process for the development of the assigned territory for company.

Scope:

THE CDM is responsible for promoting all of company’s products as a professional sales representative to all assigned existing and prospective accounts across all market sectors serviced by company:  Nutrition, Bakery, Savory and Sweet.  The position will develop and maintain productive working relationships with customers that allow sales and marketing goals to be achieved.  The individual will conduct sales calls to promote the company business and brand, seek the placement of strategic products and ensure that customers are satisfied with products and services.  The individual will make recommendations to management regarding product development, pricing, and sales projections.

Major Tasks and Duties:

Assume responsibility for the effective performance of Sales Develop a territory strategy and sales approach to align with company’s strategy, products and capabilities with potential customers within the Industry.  Be responsible for setting and executing stretch budget targets that are aligned with the organizations’ objectives.  Create and deliver sales presentations to prospective customers – aligning company’s offerings to their needs.  Prospect for new accounts utilizing media, trade shows, networking and cold calls to grow the existing business.  Attend training when required and available.  Ensure that sales accounts are serviced in accordance with company standards and policies.  Forecast long range account sales (sales, volume, margin) and product needs, and communicate related information regularly to management.  Work with cross functional team and Commercial Director to set market value pricing to maximize profitability.  Provide technical support to customers using the various tools and resources provided.  Present application concepts along with key positioning to differentiate company products and capabilities.

Assume responsibility for establishing and maintaining good business relations with customers and external trade contacts.  Ensure that customers are satisfied with Company products and services.  Obtain and share customer feedback and continually work to improve products and services.  Complete and resolve customer requests, complaints, and inquiries.  Promote products and services at trade shows and organize display material.

Assume responsibility for maintaining effective working relations, communication, and coordination with company personnel and with management.  Provide assistance to support personnel and fellow team mates as needed.  Keep management informed of area activities, changes in competitive conditions, and significant issues and achievements.  Complete required reports and records accurately and promptly.  Spend required time in company offices to gain product knowledge and build relationships within the company.  Attend meetings as required.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Food Science or related degree.  Ability to travel up to 50%, primarily within the Midwest.  Experience within the Food Industry, with preferred experience in technical bakery ingredients and engagement with industry organizations such as ITF, ASB, etc.  Outstanding engagement with industry organizations such as IFT, ASB, etc.  Outstanding organization, time management and follow-up skills including samples, quotes, technical requests, presentations, etc.  Ability to ask great questions to identify needs of customers and link them to value added, innovative solutions.  Strong communication skills, both external and internal, written and verbal.  Sales and marketing proficiency.  Strong interpersonal and public relations skills.  Growth mindset with a strong track record of professional success (profitable sales growth) and personal achievement (engagement in industry education and service).  A great team member, with ability to work in cross functional teams to execute Customer strategies.  Takes the initiative, can work with little supervision in a fast-paced environment.  Good computer skills in Windows environment.  Ability to learn wide range of technical ingredients and position company in a unique place in the market.
