Director Technical Services and Regulatory Affairs
This position is designed to troubleshoot processes, investigate product quality issues, provide regulatory guidance and conduct trials in a food manufacturing environment. In this role, one will serve as the primary technical contact for customers and will be the liaison among customers, Sales, R&D, Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing while managing a technical team.
Job Responsibilities:
- Providing problem-solving leadership on technical and quality matters relating to food manufacturing performance while managing a team of four scientists
- Managing the overall technical interface between the company and their customers
- Support customers in all technical aspects of the business including current products and new product development
- Develop and manage technical meetings between the company and customers to discuss ideas, issues and solutions
- Interact directly with customer and internal manufacturing operations
- Partner with Company’s Sales, R&D, Engineering and Manufacturing divisions to develop strategies and action plans for both current customers and potential new customers
- Provides technical regulatory advice to sister organizations and is actively involved in strategic projects.
- Directs the preparation, issuance, and maintenance of Ingredient Statement and Nutrition Fact labels for all company products in compliance with current regulatory requirements as established by USDA, FDA and Corporate policy.
- Reviews finished product graphics for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory requirements and provides final approval.
- Help on-board new products by acquiring and evaluating critical information from ingredient suppliers and building ingredient specifications in specification database.
- Develops thermal processing/preservation specifications for new products. Evaluates process deviations for existing products. Provides troubleshooting support to R&D, QA and operations.
- Reviews and submits process filings to California Department of Public Health and FDA.
- Build acquired facilities current formulas in database. This will include some processing parameters.
- Serves as a key technical resource serving as a liaison between corporate QA, R&D, Tech Services, Brand, Label Design, Regulatory consultants (International). Support for both internal and co-manufacturing plant operations.
- Evaluate claims for products for accuracy. Develop claim justification.
- Advise R&D and Brand concerning nutrition and claims during development of new and revised products.
- Respond to consumer inquiries and customer specification requests and shelf-life extensions.
- Propose and develops strategic plans to meet changes in existing or new regulation efficiently, effectively, and at the lowest cost for the company.
- Works closely with the Quality team to ensure compliance with all third-party finished product certifications and audit standards such as SQF, Organic, NON-GMO Project Verified, Kosher, etc.
- Participates in troubleshooting activities when appropriate to meet business needs.
- Manages activities of the Technical Services Team in a manner that is consistent with organizational goals.

Job Requirements
Technical Qualifications:
- BA/BS degree in Food Science, Engineering or a related discipline
- 5+ years in a Canning environment, food production or a similar industry
- Experience interfacing with customers in a technical capacity; field testing, qualification trials, claims management, etc.
- Effective communication skills are needed for this role, both verbal and written as well as the ability to interact with customers and employees at all levels of the organization
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects to completion
- Self-motivated and eager to take the initiative, with the ability to work effectively in a team setting and as an individual
- Well organized and detail oriented with good time management skills
