Director of R&D

In this role, you will lead a team of professionals responsible for end-to-end product development for the organization.  In collaboration with key stakeholders, you will define, lead and execute the enterprise’s research and development strategy to foster innovation, build customer satisfaction and drive profitable business growth.  You will actively partner with functions across the organization to deliver a robust and customer-centric innovation pipeline relevant to specific market segments.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and execute long-term R&D strategies that support business objectives
  • Manage and develop your team to optimize their contributions toward innovation, product development and culinary goals and objectives
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of R&D projects linked to key customer needs product development initiatives
  • Lead the R&D team in identifying and developing new products, projects and technologies
  • Develop, test and commercialize new value-added seafood products and processes
  • Deploy expertise in the areas of product formulation, flavor applications, ingredient interactions, analytical methods, statistical design of experiments, and commercial processing scale-up
  • Initiate and lead the new product development (NPD) process including development of new product specifications
  • Lead cross-functional teams to develop and implement improved products and processes
  • Oversee the corporate chef and culinary function
  • Maintain current knowledge of key technologies, developments in food science, trends in the food industry, and market research to ensure the organization takes advantage of relevant information and expertise
  • Promote continuous improvement through on-going teaching and training opportunities, product quality improvements, line extensions and process optimization

Salary

Up to $190K + Bonus

Qualifications

  • M.S. degree in Food Science / Technology / Engineering, natural sciences, or closely related field
  • 7-10 years product development experience in the food industry with at least 5 years in a leadership role
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate cross-functionally, influence decisions and provide direction
  • Strong project management skills; set and manage project objectives, critical paths and timelines
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under own initiative, comfortable setting goals, analyzing performance and course corrections as needed
  • Understanding of product development cycle from concept to commercialization including cost parameters and shelf-life implications
  • Proficiency with MS Office and database software
