Director of Research and Development

This position manages the Applied R&D activities for the United States and the Innovation Program for North America.  Responsibilities include the management of R&D, project managers and technicians and for the projects and product development based in 4 locations.  This position also manages one sizeable corporate R&D account.

  • Manage the R&D personnel of 13 direct reports and projects based in the above-mentioned manufacturing sites. Responsible for the administration, strategy, and technical direction and performance of the North American R&D group
  • R&D Lead and on-site contact (approximately one day per week) for specific account, manage new product development projects and existing
  •   Participate in company Research Committee
  • Provide necessary technical support to vendors, clients, and operations to resolve product issues
  • Actively participate in various projects of the Research & Development team
  • Assure development of internal and external client relations and maintain effective communications
  • Work closely with the Innovations team in Europe to help define the program for North America (US/Canada) with modifications as necessary
  • Work in close cooperation with Sales, R&D Project Managers, and Marketing teams to present innovative products to customers and drive customer-focused developments
  • Commit to providing a safe food product
  • Work within all regulatory requirements
  • Adhere to GMP practices and all other food safety requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Technology Sciences, Food Engineering, or Food Science; Masters preferred
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Flexible and willing to travel as needed
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Software knowledge of Microsoft Office and SAP ERP
