Extrusion Application Scientist

We are currently seeking an individual to work across all of client’s business units and product lines to support their extrusion technology development and applications for various company ingredients, particularly plant-based proteins in extruded snack, cereals, grains & textured protein ingredients.

  • Individual will be responsible for working closely with both external and internal customers in the formulation of plant-based textured ingredients as well as extruded commercial food & feed products
  • This will entail working closely with customers to incorporate plant based proteins and other food ingredients into their extruded food systems as well as working with customers on product re-formulation, new product development, quality assessment and process enhancement
  • This individual will be responsible for assisting with technical training for their external and internal customers on the use of plant-based proteins and other functional ingredients in food & feed extrusion applications
  • Must be willing to travel approximately 20% of the time

Requirements:

  • BS in Food Science, Cereal Science, Food Processing or related field of study
  • 5+ years of food extrusion processing experience, would really like to see 7-10 years
  • Detailed understanding of the use of food ingredients in the formulation and manufacture of extrude food systems, including snacks, cereals and textured protein ingredients
  • Must be able to work independently as well as a member of a team on research projects involving extrusion using single - & twin – extruders in the formulation and manufacturing of food products and textured food & feed ingredients based on plant-based proteins and other food ingredients
  • Must have a solid understanding of the technical dynamics of extrusion processes and the know-how to modify these processes to achieve the desired finished product characteristic
  • Must possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to work and communicate directly with individuals from the areas of marketing, sales and production
