Job Description

Flavor Scientist

As a flavor scientist, you will consult with customers and demonstrate flavor technologies in sweet and savory food applications to enhance their products.  You will also be a technical extension of sales to research and present flavor enhancements and applications to clients as a subject matter expert.  Working closely with team members to identify opportunities and create new flavor solutions that consumers are looking for.  Researching future flavor trends and forecasting solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct flavor research investigations in order to create new flavor application categories that showcase robust advantages of company flavor systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional R&D team members to research and build out of the company’s ability to offer competitive flavor formulas through data gained from sensory experiments
  • Create new flavors and refine where necessary. Build line extensions off current flavor library that can enhance offerings to customers
  • Have ownership of flavor library and use this resource as a primary tool in flavor creation and as technical index for offering solutions to clients
  • Work with team to brainstorm on new technologies in flavor creation, enhancement, and commercialization opportunities. Thinking big – new flavors development, applications of – sweet, savory, and new application technology into snacks, mixes, sweets, beverages, RTE’s, etc.
  • As Flavor Scientist, be open to showcasing product demonstrations to internal and external stakeholders as an advocate of the company’s ability to offer cutting-edge flavor technologies
  • Lead Flavor data analysis and update library, conduct flavor interpretation sessions with stakeholders
  • Identify flavor stability and quality concerns and offer corrective actions
  • Work collaboratively with cross functional internal and customer teams: Marketing, Sensory, Sales, Quality, and Procurement

Job Requirements

Requirements and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in food science of similar preferred
  • Any collaborative work with flavor organizations or certifications preferable
  • Experience with flavor compounding / formulation with a minimum of 4 years of experience with compounding, common flavoring chemical and raw materials
  • Possess understanding of flavor chemistry and a solid foundation in food science principles
  • Experience with novel ingredient research and testing
  • Understand interaction between flavor chemicals and food ingredients and relation to consumer perceptions
  • Demonstrate flavor experimentation skills, designing experiments, testing hypotheses, and drawing conclusions for flavor solutions
  • Drive new initiatives with enthusiasm and seamlessly collaborate with cross-functional teams, bringing together diverse talents to create flavor symphonies
  • Showcase outstanding teamwork, interpersonal skills, and communicate prowess, fostering a harmonious environment where collaboration and creativity thrive
