Job Description

Flavorist – Savory or Sweet

This position supports the company’s efforts to discover and commercialize new flavor technology & applications, in order to grow the business; the incumbent will participate in programs to increase core competency in flavor & related science as it relates to taste physiology, flavor perception, raw material agriculture and sustainability, flavor sustainability, as well as consumer drivers & insights.

  • Lead flavor research programs to deliver flavor chemistry fundamentals for key business priorities
  • Develop hypotheses and experimental plans to lead key flavor research initiatives
  • Conduct method development and flavor analysis to provide insights into flavor profiles (including flavor release techniques)
  • Interpret and correlate data through collaboration with product development, consumer & sensory science and statistics
  • Create robust strategic roadmaps for the flavor/food science group with cross-functional interaction and excellent project management skills
  • Develop and maintain state of the art knowledge in flavor analysis by staying abreast of upcoming consumer trends
  • Develop and enhance a network of external resources for collaborations

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • BS Food Science or related
  • Minimum 5-year experience in the Food/Flavor industry, in an R&D / Flavor / Food Science-related capacity
  • Deep experience in established flavor characterization techniques including: Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry and sample preparation methods (purge and trap, static headspace, SPME, GCO, SAFE, aroma extract dilution analysis, etc.)
  • Strong experience in real time flavor analysis (PTRMS, SIFT-MS, APCI etc.)
  • Experience in non-volatile analysis and interpretation highly desirable
  • Knowledge in flavor generations, flavor-matrix interactions also desirable
  • Flavor Encapsulation and Taste physiology experience
  • Knowledge of sensory, consumer insights, and advanced statistical techniques is a plus
  • Excellent Project Management and leadership skills
