Food Applications Manager

In this role of Food Applications Manager, you will lead and develop a team that contributes to application know-how in the areas of savory, confection, bakery, dairy and nutrition.  You will spearhead customer projects and delegate responsibilities to your team members to deliver customer solutions in product development.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • People Leadership – Manage a team of direct reports and leadership by influence over cross-functional teams for application projects
  • Partner with sales, marketing, and business development to key in on company’s ability to maintain and capture market with innovative application solutions
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement in food product development efforts
  • Ability to be a strategic leader and promote effective thought-leadership
  • Leverage best practice methodologies to yield fit-for-purpose protocols
  • Working with external partners and clients as the face of the company’s high-performing food applications team
  • Provide open, honest, and appropriate feedback to employees and take part in coaching and developing staff to support their growth
  • Drive consumer insight-related food science – push innovative recommendations to business partners and clients in trends such as alternative protein, taste modulation, and sugar or salt reduction
  • Develop and report on key metrics and functional KPIs and applies to resource needs and allocations
  • Institute and model a culture of proactivity, customer-service, and curiosity
  • Establish and manage budgets of the department

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • BS in Food Science or related discipline
  • 6+ years of product development minimum, 10+ ideal
  • 3+ years of management or leadership experience in a Research and Development environment
  • Expert knowledge of product development or application procedures across a broad range of flavor, ingredient, and food & beverage industry businesses
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to travel (about 10%)
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and support multiple projects within a given day
  • Candidate must possess good documentation skills and be adept at working within programs such as Excel, Word & assorted databases
  • Entrepreneurial, curious, courageous, and proactive self-starter who seeks to lead
  • Likes to be an ambassador/advocate of the company and represent with pride at tradeshows, with customers and community
  • Enthusiasm to drive research and results in the company
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Broad understanding our business
  • Mentor and coach junior employees
  • We are looking for someone with a positive attitude, a team player, engaging and able to communicate their thoughts and ideas effectively
