Job Description

Food Safety and Quality Manager

The Food Safety and Quality Manager will have the following critical responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership and overall direction to the food safety and quality program, ensuring regulatory compliance and ensuring that all internal quality standards and external SQF and customer requirements are maintained at the plants
  • Provides support, coaching, and training to all employees in all aspects of the company food safety and quality programs
  • Active and integral member of plant senior management team
  • Drives product quality continuous improvement efforts
  • Responsible to outside governmental agencies, USDA, FDA, State Department of Agriculture during on-site inspections and to consumers and customers through investigation and response to complaints
  • Leads product incident problem solving resolution, identifies root cause to product quality incidents by using direct staff and collaborating with necessary departments to quickly understand the issue
  • Responsible for ensuring plant sanitation, pest control and other food safety programs are implemented
  • Qualified through training and experience in the application of HACCP principles and risk-based preventive controls
  • As the SQF practitioner, have understanding and knowledge of the SQF code
  • Support and promote food safety and quality program initiatives within the plant environment

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5-7 years of experience

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • USDA/FDA experience
  • Managerial experience
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Food/beverage quality systems experience
  • Statistical process control experience
  • Effective leadership skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Business management skills
  • SQF Code or other GFSI Scheme
  • Experience in the application of HACCP principles
