Formulations Chemist – Industrial Lubricants

We are seeking an experienced formulation chemist for the Industrial Lubricants team with the responsibility for supporting company business growth through development of formulations.  The position has a special emphasis on creating value for their customers through the development of extensive application and formulation know how using company additives.

  • Develop an understanding of the application benefits of company products versus competitive products in formulation, and generate data to support value proposition communication to customers
  • Plan and perform bench top formulation, application, and compatibility studies. Present results to internal and external customers in support of business growth objectives
  • Keep abreast of customer needs, patent literature, market trends and drivers, to anticipate and test new applications and formulations for company’s products
  • Translate customer needs into product innovation from formulations
  • Interact and communicate with the North American Business Manager and Technical Leader to meet project timelines and customer technical needs
  • Actively serve as technical support for marketing, sales, and external customers
  • Foster and maintain relationships to external customers and the market through select customer visits with sales and business line management personnel. This includes participation in trade organizations and conferences
  • Work with the global company Innovation Center to evaluate and develop products and projects for select customers

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (or equivalent experience) in chemistry or related scientific field
  • Travel will be in the range of 10%, some international travel may be required
  • Formulation experience with metal forming and metal removal. Experience within related applications, such as hydraulics, quenching, metal cleaning, rolling oils and emulsions are a benefit
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the industry and key technologies, along with the ability to develop robust formulations
  • Desire to improve and solve customer formulation objectives, using strong listening, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in planning and administering application tests for physical evaluations of formulation stability and compatibility of metalworking formulations
  • Flexibility and responsiveness, ability to successfully manage multiple projects with varying timelines and competing priorities
  • Comfortable in a hands-on working environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
