Technical Service Chemist – Composite Resin
Do you have experience in formulating thermoset resins for fiber reinforced applications? This position is open due to a retirement and offers great career growth opportunities. You’ll work directly with customers and help troubleshoot resin chemistry in their processes (SMC, BMC, and some Pultrusion). Travel will be about 35% and could grow into more if you enjoy it! This is working for the best of the best in the FRP market!
The Technical Service Chemist position is the key customer interface between the organization and its existing or potential customers. This position coordinates and partakes in Technical Service Calls, Customer Trials, and Meetings. The position also assists Product Leaders in developing products that meet the needs and expectations of customers. These activities include new product development, modification of existing products, and solving technical problems. This position will focus on the proliferation and development of thermoset resins and additives for Sheet Molding Compound (SMC), Bulk Molding Compound (BMC), pultrusion and other composite fabrication techniques. Potential travel could be up to approximately 50%. Lab work will account for 2/3rds of the responsibilities. Travel will more likely be 33% for the first several years.
Tech and Process Support
- Coordinate and partake in Technical Service Calls at the customer as required
- Coordinate and partake in Customer Trials, Meetings and Demonstrations as required
- Coordinate and partake in scale-up process trials in SMC, BMC, and pultrusion applications
Product Development
- Work with Product Leaders in formulation and developing of new products, and modifying current products, to meet the Customer’s fitness for use
- Communicate internally within the organization (sales, R&D, management) and customers to gather the information necessary to develop new, and modify current products
Laboratory Support
- Work with Product Leaders to prepare (SMC, BMC, and pultrusion) lab formulations and testing to company policies and procedures
- Work with Product Leaders and Technologists to prepare, test and ship samples to Customers
- Coordinate and perform limited lab studies
Work Documentation
- Skilled in using Microsoft Office
- Document Technical Service Calls, Customer Trials, Meetings etc., via written reports, E-mails, etc.

Job Requirements
Technical Qualifications:
- BS Chemist with 5 years of thermoset resins formulation for Close Molding applications (VaRTM, RTM, SMC, BMC, Pultrusion)
- Excellent communication skills to work with customers
- Ability to travel 30-40% of the time to visit customers
