Lab Manager – Construction Materials Application

The Lab Manager will have the following responsibilities:

  • Communicate with technical service, sales, and others to establish the correct priority for laboratory projects
  • Design experiments to meet objectives of requestor and present detailed written laboratory test plans
  • Work with scientists and technicians to execute the experimental design
  • Communicate results to all shareholders via detailed technical reports and presentations where applicable
  • Provide the assistance, organization and direction needed for technicians to accomplish the goals outlined by scientists or other functions
  • Ensure a safe and efficient work environment
  • May include working at customer facility on special projects in areas of expertise and/or maintaining contact with and presenting technical data to customers
  • Monitor inventory of lab raw material supplies. Coordinate vendor visits for equipment upgrades or calibrations
  • Actively read technical literature and participate in industry sponsored seminars and/or continuing education as appropriate
  • Schedule tasks, train, and supervise technicians

Requirements:

  • BS/MS/PhD degree in Chemistry or related plus a minimum of 5 years of industry experience in development of CASE products (coatings, adhesives, sealants, or elastomers) for the building / construction industry. 10+ years preferred
  • Experience managing development projects from the lab through scale-up in the plant to the customer
  • Experience with intellectual property preferred, but not required
  • Strong, independent thinker
  • Logical thinkers that use the scientific method in their approach to problems and projects
  • Good social skills! Their scientists are very public both internally and within the industry / customers
