Formulation Chemist
Job Description
Base Salary: $85,000-$115,000
Medical/Dental/Vision/PTO/401K
Well-established chemical manufacturing is seeking a formulation chemist to formulate waterborne coatings! The company has a diverse product portfolio and is consistently growing! If you have a bachelor's degree in chemistry or related and 5+ years of waterbased coatings formulation, this could be a great role for you.
- Develops new formulas based on Organizational needs, sample requests and product specifications.
- Analyzes existing formulas to identify areas that require improvements, modifications, or further testing.
- Performs quality assurance tests and establishes acceptance criteria at all stages of testing or production cycles.
- Reports and analyzes tests results to fellow chemists, other members of the laboratory, sales team members, and customers
- Communicates issues with current products, materials and tools and develops solutions to resolve them.
- Operates basic lab equipment in compliance with safety regulations.
- Coordinates and participates in the adherence to all regulatory requirements including, but not limited to International, Federal, State, and Local ordinances in relation to the chemicals present at the company.
- Assists and ensures company-wide compliance with all applicable product stewardship laws and regulations including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, DOT, GHS, etc.
- Reviews all supplier and company SDSs to provide and ensure accurate information is relayed to internal documents such as labels, Cimpro, Formulator, Sage X-3 Shipping sheets and transportation documentation.
- Consults with associates and supervisors as to specific safety, chemical, or handling concerns.
- Observes all prescribed safety rules and regulations and maintains a neat and orderly work area.
- Maintains awareness of industry trends, scientific literature, alternative materials, and upcoming technology.
- Researches new materials, equipment, and technologies to develop new formula prototypes for review and testing.
- May travel to customer’s locations or trade shows to meet with technical and non-technical representatives regarding products, applications, and customer needs.
- Communicates effectively with the sales team and directly with the customer as needed to ensure project advancement
- Performs all other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related
- 10 Years of experience working with formulation of coatings
- Someone who can analyze a formula
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint)
- Ability to apply concepts such as basic mathematic skills to ensure calculations are accurate
- Strong people skills
- Strong communication skills and handling troubleshooting for customers
- Willing to wear many hats
- Easygoing and not rigid
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
