Laboratory Manager

The Laboratory Manager will have the following responsibilities:

  • Technical leadership, mentoring and project management
  • Supervise QC and R&D technicians, and manage 10 or more projects
  • Interact extensively with R&D staff, manufacturing, and marketing
  • Management of the Laboratory
    • Review research protocols of lab technicians in an effort to stay abreast as to what research projects are occurring in the lab at any given time
    • Review lab reports for internal and external publication
    • Update and maintain the Lab Safety Plan/Manual and the SDS Manual
  • Laboratory Operation
    • Oversees laboratory safety and ensures that the laboratory remains in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations. In cases where non-compliance is found, documents the instances as well as how they were abated
    • Ensures all reagents and supplies are available when needed
    • Manages and updates chemical inventories and/or Risk Group Agent inventories
    • Communicates and enforces laboratory safety rules to internal and external researchers working in the lab
    • Ensures all users of the lab are wearing the appropriate PPE
    • Participates in customer related testing. Hands on in product evaluations and quality testing
  • Training
    • Ensures lab users have been trained on the correct use of the lab equipment, in addition to mentoring and discipling lab users for not following safety policies / procedures that have been established for the lab
  • HSE Management
    • Involved in managing product SDS database. Can generate SDS documents when needed
  • Understands and communicates regularly as it pertains to current product offerings: TSCA, EPA, REACH
  • Paper / Film QC Testing
  • Corrosion Testing
  • Technical Service
    • Work with internal sales team regularly solve customer complaints or queries
    • Customer interfacing – phone calls / email / in-person (regional)
    • Design of experiments – vapor vs contact corrosion testing
    • Report writing, review reports from technicians. Work with internal sales for external reports
  • Manage resources to ensure projects are being completed in a timely manner. Make priority decision on projects to ensure customer satisfaction and timeliness of project.

Requirements:

  • BS or BA (Masters preferred) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field
  • Experience in corrosion inhibitors – paper and film testing. Chemical and physical properties analysis
  • Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in a quality regulated (ISO, GLP, GMP, etc.) in a manufacturing setting
  • Skilled in solving minor mechanical issues with laboratory equipment
  • Proactive mindset to organize and balance multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced laboratory setting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Knowledge of ChemGes software desirable
