Material Development Chemist

The Material Development Chemist will have the following responsibilities:

  • Develop thermoset rubber polymeric compound formulations which meet both internal and external customer requirements, by studying the physical or chemical properties of compounds and ingredients, with a view to determining the quality and stability of such materials
  • Make compound selection recommendations to internal development teams and participate cross-functionally
  • Interpreting data and adhering to ASTM guidelines on documentation when recording data, and reporting scientific results. Make sure that data is accurately recorded in accordance to departmental guidelines
  • Setting the specifications for the finished compound formulations, preparing product license documentation, MSDS and product technical reports
  • Being aware of, and keeping up to date with, health and safety issues
  • Validating methods and equipment

Requirements:

  • Organic Chemistry degree, or a Chemistry or technical degree with strong Organic Chemistry concentration / knowledge / analysis background
  • Rubber compounding experience
  • 5+ years of experience compounding and formulating rubber
  • Continuing education training in design of experiments with familiarity in Multivariate Analysis, Response Surface Designs, Mixture Designs and Screening Designs
  • Proven experience in the formulation and processing of polymeric rubber materials to meet application specifications
  • Strong communication skills
