Materials Engineer

The Materials Engineer will have the following responsibilities:

  • Focusing on advancing materials innovation through direct research and problem solving in the laboratory. Develop methods for material preparation and testing.  Coordinate and conduct daily research activities with other lab staff.  Produce meaningful laboratory results on focused materials innovation initiatives
  • Working within the current laboratory structure to conduct experiments, produce new materials, and operate instrumentation for testing. Interfacing with internal and external technical resources to conduct testing requiring equipment or expertise not available within company.  Communicating goals and achievements in a field that is entirely new to company
  • Will conduct daily research activities related to material preparation and processing. Engineering if new process methods and equipment
  • Conduct daily research activities related to material testing and potential application testing
  • Preparing related reports and presentations
  • Review literature and contribute to innovative ideas (materials and materials processing)

  • BS in Materials Science or Chemical Engineering with 2-3 years of experience
  • Current working knowledge of materials science including polymer and elastomer systems, nanomaterials, materials structure / property relationships
  • Laboratory and research skills are required including design of experiment, equipment management and maintenance as well as communication and technical writing skills. Should have experience with Gas Sorption, TEM, SEM, DSC, ICP, XRD, XPS and Raman
  • Ability to be innovative, develop new materials and material processes, conduct experiments and test hypotheses, and solve technical problems
  • Well organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and a team player. Being able to lead by example and effectively communicate technical information by means understandable to all levels of the organization is a must
