Job Description

Our client is a manufacturer of specialty engineering materials used in multiple different industries. They currently seek an Plant Engineering Manager for their plant in the Portland OR. The ideal candidate should enjoy being out in the plant and getting involved in the technical aspects of the process like assisting with troubleshooting when needed. This position has strong potential for promotion in the future into Plant Management!

As The Plant Engineering Manager, job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Owner, accountable for all plant assets; responsible for controlling, tracking and reporting spending of the capital budget and the maintenance
  • Function as a project manager for capital projects
  • Communicate with internal and external customers to ensure project plans and work in progress will meet desired outcomes
  • Communicate with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards
  • Directly supervise all resources in the maintenance
  • Analyze/plan maintenance work force utilization, predictive/preventative maintenance, space requirements, workflow, and design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency
  • Provide technical advice on plant operations and improvements. Prepare engineering analysis of projects that includes preliminary design, detailed design, project cost analysis, life cycle cost analysis and equipment selection
  • Develop, evaluate and improve the manufacturing controls and automation utilizing knowledge of instrumentation, controls & automation, product design, materials, chemicals, and production equipment capabilities
  • Leverage engineering controls to institutionalize consistencies in production

Salary Range: up to $145,000 plus 15% yearly bonus potential

Job Requirements

Plant Engineering Manager Requirements:

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering
  • 5+ years plant maintenance/engineering/project engineering experience in chemicals, paper manufacturing, or similar industries
  • Exposure to Programmable Logic Control, Distributive Process Controls Systems (DeltaV), HMI and Automation control systems
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated record of leadership, teamwork, adaptability, innovation and initiative
  • Ability to work well with all levels of personnel throughout the facility and the company
  • Experience in executing pillars of total productive maintenance (TPM)
  • Engineer in Training Certification or PE
