Platform Manager – Polymer Synthesis

The Platform Manager – Polymer Synthesis will have the following responsibilities:

  • Responsible for technical direction of CE portfolio ensuring milestones are appropriate and well defined for projects
  • Organizes and directs technical resources to drive toward completion of milestones
  • Serves as the focal point for communication between project teams and Business and Technology leadership
  • Prioritizes technical activities across projects
  • Identifies resource gaps in project teams and work to fill gaps
  • Works with marketing team to set priorities for CE projects
  • Works with project leaders to manage budget / schedule and prepare status updates and contingency plans to enable quick progression
  • Manages front end portfolio
  • Identifies and develops application development capabilities to support product development (internal and external capability)
  • This is not a bench position. They want someone who can be the go between R&D and the business groups.  There will be global communication - help manage the portfolio and generating new ideas
  • There will be 25-30% travel

  • Must have a PhD in Chemistry, Polymer Science or Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university or a Master’s degree with at least five years of synthesis experience
  • Must have strong working knowledge of cellulose esters – synthesis, characterization and structure-property relationships
  • Must have basic understanding of a broad range of analytical techniques, including rheology, thermal analysis, and various chromatography and spectroscopies
  • Excellent judgment and relational abilities. Able to collaborate with peers of various technical backgrounds and fields of expertise to enable effective product development
  • Must demonstrate excellence around professional follow-through and achieving timely closure on issues and assignments. Must be customer focused and have leadership potential
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Previous project leadership in an industrial setting is preferred
  • Quickly assimilates new information
  • High level of motivation, initiative and sense of urgency
  • Flexible to provide first-hand presence and effective support in multiple labs and facilities
  • Complete fluency in English, including good verbal and written technical communications
  • Must be able to travel 25-30%
