Principal Ink Chemist

Global ink manufacturer is seeking a Principal Chemist experienced in ink formulation.  Chance to work across multiple departments and lead projects to commercialization.  This team is collaborative, positive and management focuses on teaching skills necessary for career advancement.

The Principal Chemist analyzes, designs, plans, coordinates, and leads high-level activities in support of new product development, complex problem resolution, and process, product, or formulation improvement.  Performs complex technical assignments requiring the development and implementation of new or improved formulations, processes, procedures, and design philosophies.  When necessary, provides technical guidance and leadership to assigned individuals and across cross-functional teams.

  • Develops new and/or improved product formulas or procedures in conjunction with guidelines established by customers and/or senior management
  • Supports and/or directs cost & quality control programs
  • Develops and maintains timelines, resource allocations and budgets for projects assigned
  • Communicates, in a timely fashion, all information regarding formulation, project status, costing, results, etc. to department management
  • Develops technical proposals and conducts complex process or formulation analyses
  • Suggests new and improved analytical methods for improved analytical results
  • Supports the development and mentoring of less senior chemists and technicians in processes, procedures, and techniques
  • Provides technical leadership in designing products or processes
  • Applies the scientific process, knowledge, and experience to resolve technical problems
  • Develops working relationships with Sales, Marketing, Engineering and Production
  • Plans and delivers presentations to other employees, management, or customers
  • Assists in writing patent applications and responding to Patent office actions
  • Documents test results, specifications, and procedures in a standard professional format

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • Degree in chemistry, polymers, or related discipline with 3 years formulation experience. MS or PhD preferred
  • Ink formulation experience is required with a preference toward aqueous or UV inkjet inks
  • Broad knowledge and experience with leading print head technologies on the market are preferred
  • Printing and application experiences with wide format inkjet printers are preferred
  • Advanced and demonstrated skill level in designing and optimizing formulation and process
  • Broad knowledge of analytical methodologies required to design a formulation or process
  • Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to lead others in completion of tasks
  • A proven track record of successful, new product development
  • Knowledge of patent processes and procedures
