Process Development Chemist
Our customer is a worldwide provider of polymer systems for the industrial marketplace. They are seeking a U.S. Citizen/Green Card Holder with significant manufacturing experience (minimum 5 years) to manage the chemistry scale up and new product introduction at their largest manufacturing site. The right individual must have knowledge of large scale production, stage gate, process management, and manufacturing support. The site sits remote to the Mobile, Alabama area and the company offers a great compensation package, full benefits, and relocation package.
The Process Development Chemist oversees independently managing Process Development mandates in order to support NPI and Manufacturing improvement initiatives with the consideration of PSM/EHS requirement. The position requires management of the accountabilities and share the knowledge, experience, and practice across the global process development organization.
There are 160 employees at this facility. There are 3 Process Chemists, 2 Chemical Engineers and 2 Lab techs in this group. Two of the Process Chemists have been there 30 and 22 years. One of the Chemical Engineers have been there 15 years. The Process Chemist will also work with the Thermal Stability Lab and running DSC, ARC, ARC1.
The projects run from 4 months to 2 years and they use stage gate and E-Labs.
What will be expected from you?
- Execute mandates using state of the art tools and methodologies to deliver safe, practical, economic solutions with no adverse environmental effect.
- Drive action plan with respect of deadline and available resource (internal, analytics, external upon request).
- Innovates by developing new tools and methodologies for mandate execution.
- Propose solutions to improve productivity, EHS, PSM, quality and reliability.
- Act as process owner in projects taking results into production. Work as team member at process/product introduction.
- Manage knowledge / reporting with respect of quality standards.
- The emphasis of this position is on innovation and improving currents products
- Be a valuable point of contact for our internal customers like PM's, Marketing, Technology & Innovation, Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering.
- Implement new product introduction, including feasibility study, define and develop process parameters with PSM/EHS review and procedure, cost evaluation/estimation, technical package preparation, etc.
- Support the business portfolio by a rapid and efficient scale up from lab to production.
- Work toward a zero harms objective.
- Ensure day to day work is carried out in a safe manner and all near misses, incidents and accidents are reported/Investigated
- Implement EHS/PSM procedure (e.g. MOC, JSA, RA, etc..), and support site HAZOP studies.

Job Requirements
TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum BS Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or relevant discipline.
- Master’s degree or PhD highly preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in a laboratory, production or process development area, preferably in a multinational (industrial) company within chemical manufacturing.
- Knowledge in organic chemistry, polymeric chemistry and epoxy chemistry.
- Knowledge in chemical engineering and understanding of chemical production process.
- In-depth knowledge in analytical methodology and proficient with statistic principles.
- Experience in thermal assessment using reaction calorimetry and other thermal techniques is a plus.
- Proficiency in D.O.E. and LIMS systems (E-Lab Notebooks)
- Excellent computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes).
- Project Management skills.
- Knowledge of SAP a plus.
