Product Development Chemist – Oleochemical

We are working with a renowned chemical resin manufacturer with a broad product portfolio that supports process oils specifically paraffinic, naphthenic, aromatic and renewable products.  Part of a 4 Billion global company this division prides itself on delivering custom resins to it’s N.A. and S.A. customers on a large scale.  The Product Development Chemist is to oversee the development of new products, improve chemical process, and help solve customer technical issues.  In accomplishing these objectives, this person also directs the work of technicians.  The geographical location for this position is Hattiesburg, MS.

The right individual will enjoy application research; interface with business development; work with engineers to scale up product; enjoy brainstorming solutions and troubleshooting with customers; guide others constructively; and foster a culture of fun, learning, and good will.

Role and Responsibilities

Development of resin systems and formulations using research, synthesis, and colloidal chemistry while performing characterization techniques.

  • Support product development and process improvement
  • Supervise the activities of R&D technicians
  • Evaluate new raw materials and processes to improve the product line
  • Develop R&D requests including experimental designs
  • Provide written summaries and recommendations based on analysis of laboratory data
  • Ensure analytical procedures and equipment are up-to-date and adequate
  • Effectively interface with other technical personnel
  • Interact with customers regarding technical support and development efforts
  • Interact with vendors regarding technical matters
  • Travel on a limited basis

Salary

$85,000 - $120,000

Benefits & Relocation

Benefits: PPO or HMO; V; D; Life. 401K match is 100% on first 2; also a direct 6% contribution to 401K based on profit (last 4 years).  Relocation: They will offer a full package on a case-by-case basis.  Will include a physical move, house hunting trip, relocation costs, temp housing if needed.  Possible small sign on to cover a realtor’s fee.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • BS Degree in Polymer Chemistry; Chemistry
  • 5 Years of Experience in Industrial Development
  • Colloidal Chemistry & Physical Chemistry or strong Oxidation and Sulfonation experience
  • 3-5 years of work with oleoresins, fatty acids, oleo extracts, amines, emulsions, or surfactants
  • Polymer Synthesis (Condensation); Characterization
  • Low Molecular Weight Chemistry
  • High level of Organization
