Product Testing Engineer

The ideal candidate will have a background in civil or mechanical engineering, strong knowledge of construction practices, and project management experience in a laboratory environment.  The ideal candidate would be able to operate mechanical testing equipment, build construction test specimens, and would have the ability to expand testing capabilities through mechanical testing equipment, build construction test specimens, and would have the ability to expand testing capabilities through mechanical and automation improvements.  The ideal candidate would have above average technical writing ability and fluency in preparing and presenting data in formats which can be understood by non-technical personnel, have the excellent organizational skills necessary to manage multiple projects.

  • Daily management of internal company product testing laboratory including direct execution of lab testing projects
  • Development of laboratory resources (hardware and capabilities) to address evolving technical requirements and growth of the company Product Testing function
  • Project management of daily testing activities including assigning, executing, reporting, and providing performance metrics
  • Manage calibration and maintenance of product testing laboratory equipment
  • Project management of external testing projects
  • Interaction with company R&D and other departments
  • Occasional travel (10%) to support external lab testing projects
  • Maintain a safe working environment in the laboratory

Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 year degree in civil or mechanical engineering, construction management, architecture, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years in engineering or construction relate field or 3 years laboratory testing of construction products
  • Knowledge of and skills using construction methods and materials
  • Thorough knowledge of test methods, engineering principles and calculations
  • Microsoft Office knowledge using Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong mechanical skills
  • Equipment automation and control, preferred
  • Sizing and selection of mechanical equipment including pumps and motors, preferred
  • SketchUp and/or CAD skills, preferred
  • Understanding of building science basics, preferred
  • Equipment automation and control, preferred
  • Sizing and selection of mechanical equipment including pumps and motors, preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with strong emphasis in technical writing
  • High level organizational skills; must be detail oriented
  • Be a team player – willing to work for the improvement of the team and its goals
  • Possess solid leadership skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to manage projects simultaneously
