The Production Shift Supervisor will supervise production activities on a daily basis to ensure safe and efficient operations and produce quality products that meet or exceed customer needs.  

Activities include scheduling of work, monitoring equipment, problem solving, and maintenance of a safe work environment. 

The Production Shift Supervisor is also responsible for coordination of any emergency response activities in the plant and for any off-shift maintenance work including overseeing outside contractors working in the area.


  • Schedule and monitor daily production charging requirements
  • Schedule workload for each shift based on the needs of the production schedule while maximizing the effective utilization of process equipment
  • Conduct effective troubleshooting of the process equipment as required to minimize downtime and maintain the production schedule
  • Continuously seeks ways to improve performance of our facility's operation and ensures that customers' (both internal and external) needs are met
  • Monitor QA results and respond with appropriate adjustments to keep the process on target
  • Investigate all off spec occurrences and implement appropriate corrective action
  • Effectively communicate daily production schedule to all operators in the production area
  • Provide direct supervision to employees
  • Properly provide guidance to operators for equipment setup for maintenance
  • Troubleshoot acute maintenance problems and implement innovative solutions to improve plant productivity and performance
  • Attend specialized training as required to support new plant equipment and systems
  • Conduct daily shift meetings with employees
  • Monitor adherence to plant safety procedures and work with employees at all levels to improve plant safety performance
  • Respond to environmental releases; manage any emergency situations or plant evacuations during the off-shift hours
  • Reduce accidents and on-the-job injuries by focusing on remedying unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and developing safety awareness
  • Communicate with Operators, Production Supervisors, Maintenance Coordinators, Schedulers, QA personnel, and Management on the status of the process, scheduling, manufacturing problems encountered, and anticipated needs for the future


  • B.S. Chemical Engineering degree required
  • 1-2 years of experience in plant or production environment preferred
  • Strong technically, including some knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry
  • 1 year or more of experience in the direct supervision/leadership of plant personnel would be ideal
  • Working knowledge of production tracking and reporting processes and protocols
  • Self-driven/motivated to seek out and take on responsibility with little supervision
  • Strong communication skills; able to lead groups of 20-30 ppl; effective writing and presentation skills
  • Can track and trend progress and set measurable goals
  • Capable of complying with and demonstrating high levels of safety compliance
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of business/finance
