Quality Manager – Co-Manufacturing

Seeking a dynamic Quality Manager to oversee the co-manufacturing partners for their various products such as bars, beverages, snacks, prepared foods, etc.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Quality Manager performs a wide variety of technical tasks in support of specific new or existing products with the manufacturing partners.  This person will oversee Quality, Food Safety and Auditing of the Co-manufacturing plants in North America.  There are 5-7 located in various areas of the US.  This person must be an excellent communicator and have a business savviness about them as they are critical partners and this person will manage the quality projects with the various locations and partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES TO INCLUDE:

  • Lead team of developers to create, manufacture, and launch new innovation project
  • Educate all team members on fundamentals of Food Science
  • Work cross functionally to support product development
  • Project Management Work as part of cross-departmental international team
  • Manage with suppliers to manage product development, scale up, and optimization of products
  • Work directly with developers to optimize product development output
  • Operate against pre-determined timelines and goals to successfully meet corporate objectives
  • Assist in managing scale ups, manufacturing changes, and other on site at the manufacture
  • Define, create, and implement targets for reproducibility of manufacture
  • Attend / support trials for new products
  • Work against budget to find savings in formulation, manufacturing, and process
  • Troubleshoot lab to plant issues, make suggestions for improvement
  • Travels to Co Manufacturing partners to conduct audits, development, and testing
  • Participate in planning, monitoring and documenting plant trials for successful commercialization of new products
  • Keep accurate records of lab work, documentation of ingredients used, and formulation modifications
  • Travel about 1 week a month is expected to various plant locations

EXPECTATION OF DAY TO DAY DUTIES:

  • Provide leadership and direction for Quality Assurance Officer personnel. The primary responsibilities for this position includes the management of the Quality Assurance Release function; to ensure that products are in compliance with specifications; meet the company’s quality and integrity standards.

THE POSITION:

  • Lead the HACCP program for the Co-Manufacturing locations. Ensure annual reviews are completed and documented.  Responsible for HACCP reviews as part of the day to day process
  • Responsible for conducting food safety inspections and in-depth internal audits for compliance and reporting the findings from those audits to management as well as demonstrate basic aspects of compliance through training, communication, and other duties assigned by management
  • In addition, facilitate the continuous improvement process throughout the facilities. Participate with quality leaders in the development of company-wide quality leaders in the development of company-wide quality processes and systems; and regular interaction with plant operation’s management, R&D, Sales/Marketing, and other manufacturing operations

Requirements:

  • BS degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related science
  • Knowledge of FDA good manufacturing practices (GMP) 21 CFR Part 117, FSSC 22000, FEMAS, and FAMI-QS
  • Knowledge of TrackWise, Documentum and SAP systems
  • HACCP, PCQI and Auditing certification is desired
  • 7-10 years of QA or equivalent technically based experience
  • Co-Manufacturing experience is a plus
  • Direct experience with bars and baked goods is a plus
  • 3-10 years’ experience in Food Science or related field
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of commonly used lab instruments (e.g. lance/scales, calipers, etc.)
  • Familiarity with basic statistical tests
  • Must have the ability to work cross-functionally, build relationships and excel in a team environment
