Quality Systems Manager (Onsite)

The Quality Systems Manager (QSM) is responsible for the management and execution of quality control programs and systems at the plant.  The QSM will be the external facing quality resource for customers, consumers, and auditors.  Supports the Quality Operations Manager and department goals and priorities.

Functions of the Position:

  • Develops, implements, and maintains quality control systems to assure the highest possible quality standards in all incoming raw materials, outgoing finished products, and company manufacturing environments
  • Oversees the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing System including food safety fundamentals, the food safety plan, and the food quality plan
  • Leads regulatory inspections, monthly plant GMP audits, and customer and third-party audits such as AIB and SQF. Develops and maintains the audit CAPAs
  • Coordinates and leads customer quality reviews. Investigates customer/consumer complaints, implements corrective and preventative actions, and provides responses and reports in a timely manner.  Provides assistance to customer service representatives when technical expertise is needed
  • Works with all plant departments and senior management to continuously improve the level of quality for all raw materials, work-in-process products, and finished goods
  • Takes appropriate action to maintain the integrity of the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing System
  • Communicates to relevant personnel all information essential to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing System
  • Acts as an SQF practitioner and assures that a protocol for validating pre-requisite programs and critical food safety and food quality limits are developed, implemented, and maintained
  • Initiates quality control programs that are developed and/or required by customers. Works closely with customers to understand their requirements and their product specifications
  • Active member of the quality leadership team. Make quality and food safety related recommendations to the VP, Food Safety, Quality, and Regulatory Compliance and keeps the VP informed of significant quality and food safety issues
  • Manages all interactions required with outside analytical and microbiological laboratories
  • Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of quality and food safety related training
  • Responsible for manufacturing, distributing and consistently maintaining safe and quality food by following current good manufacturing practices, allergen/sanitation controls, food defense/food fraud, HACCP/FSMA, SQF, and regulatory requirements
  • Aware and accountable for maintaining and documenting preventative controls necessary to ensure food safety and quality

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a food science, technology, or laboratory science (such as biology, chemistry or physics, etc.) is required
  • Seven or more years of experience in managing quality operations in a food-manufacturing environment required
  • Supervisory responsibility for Quality Supervisor, Quality Specialist, Quality Technician and Quality Lead
