Quality Team Leader

The Quality Team Leader is the asset operating manager for the Quality Control Lab.  This position is responsible for the lab asset’s overall integrity and responsibilities to include; supervise day to day quality control testing, manage lab personnel and staffing levels, oversee safety, quality and environmental issues, manage the laboratory budget to ensure internal / external quality parameters are met, and ensure accurate / timely delivery of internal / external testing of customer’s shipments.

Accountability 1 – HES:

  • Lead, support and promote adherence to the Lifesaving Rules and the 20 Principles of Managing Behavioral Safety and Process Safety
  • Lead the safety and environmental effort for the quality control lab by setting expectations, participating in and leading JHA’s, technician training, incident investigations, JSBO’s and audits. Completes corrective actions arising from those activities.

Accountability 2 – Leadership and People Development:

  • Manage and direct individuals and teams by modifying behavior, building confidence, listening, settling conflicts, removing barriers, setting expectations, providing feedback, providing positive environment, driving change, providing consistency in day-to-day / team-to-team activities and developing leadership roles
  • 12 direct reports (9 lab techs, 2 chemists, 1 quality engineer)
  • Direct and implement the overall training and qualification process
  • Serve as communication link between team and other groups both internal and external to the site
  • Develop budgets and implement required cost control efforts
  • Administer and oversee the activities of vacation scheduling, attendance control, time approval, performance reviews, accounting support, routine communications and discipline

Accountability 3 – Quality:

  • Maintain 3rd party certifications with ISO 9001, ISO 17025, Underwriters Laboratories, Canadian Standards Association and National Sanitation Foundation
  • Provide quality testing and certification on plant output including direct support product shipments to customers and the issuance of Certification of Analysis (COA’s) for all shipments to customers
  • Maintain records of and serve as the plant contact for Underwriters Laboratories, National Standards Foundation and Canadian Standards Association.
  • Interface routinely with supply chain, scheduling, product management, sales and technical support organizations b providing information, testing and troubleshooting pertinent to product color and quality in support of customer satisfaction

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or 5 years equivalent management and/or technical experience
  • Working knowledge of external registrations including ISO 9001, ISO 17025, UL, CSA, NSF
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and analytical testing
  • Ability to manipulate and evaluate data electronically to identify trends and improvement opportunities
  • Strong technical knowledge of materials, equipment design and function
  • Ability to read, understand and follow Published International Standards
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products. Strong application of Excel and familiarity with Access
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse groups to gain consensus and a clear path forward
  • Leadership ability – demonstrated influence and collaboration skills between multiple individuals and departments
  • Proven commitment and delivery of SHE compliance
  • Ability to positively influence others / promote philosophy
  • Makes timely and effective decisions, includes use of good judgment and consideration of proper balance between benefits / risks
