R&D Chemist

The responsibilities of the R&D Chemist will include the following:

  • Execute, with some supervision, a set of experimental activities that has been defined by a supervisor applying high quality standards
  • Prepare reports and gives recommendations for next steps / improvement possibilities
  • Report results and experimentation in laboratory books and verbally explain to team members his/her findings
  • Maintain a timely, accurate, and witnessed lab book in order to provide records necessary to properly execute and/or address all IP questions and desires to safeguard experimental data
  • Become proficient at company base products and technology in order to use such knowledge for future research. This is done through on the job experiences, reading articles, and training
  • Prepare presentations and/or papers for internal and external customers and industry gatherings
  • Interact with peers with professionalism and respect. Mentor trainees as necessary
  • Contribute to other research projects through meetings and peer interactions
  • Support the introduction and productions scale-up of new products
  • Maintain high level of knowledge and awareness of regulatory standards and regulations and practice good housekeeping (5S)
  • Gather technical intelligence by reading published literature, patents and press releases and attending conferences and tradeshows
  • Actively cooperate and communicate with all internal functions and resources, particularly R&D, Business Development, Marketing, Manufacturing, and Engineering in order to leverage internal synergies
  • Conduct business activities in accordance with Company policy, EH&S, and Business Ethics

Requirements:

  • BS/MS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in an R&D role developing polymeric materials
  • Experience with coating development / formulation a positive
  • Creative, curious, open minded
  • Good time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Project management skills
  • Data driven, experience with statistical programs such as JMP or Minitab a plus
  • Working knowledge of basic office software
  • Thinker and Doer/Hands-On
  • Must be able to maintain a clear sense of perspective, seeing different aspects of a problem and then focusing on the key issues
  • Internally-motivated / Self-starter
  • Ability to manage own assignments on schedule and in accordance with project
  • Proven team-work ability to work in a cross-functional team environment
