R&D Manager – Metalworking Fluids (MWF)

The R&D Manager will report to the Director of R&D and QC and will be responsible for all Metalworking Fluids (MWFs) and Industrial Lubricants R&D activities in the U.S.’s ISO 9001 / ATF 16949 lab.  This very important leadership role will oversee a team of 8-10 chemists and scientists, over 30% of which have Ph.D.’s.

The successful manager will:

  • Develop and drive the Vision, Strategy, Stage/Gate Process, and resulting Business Plants for MWFs and Industrial Lubricants new and modified products
  • Serve as the Americas’ MWFs and Industrial Lubricants link to the Technology Centers on the 3 Continents to ensure alignment and execution of the R&D and product strategies, and to drive adherence to company’s product development and stage-gate process
  • Develop and maintain a pipeline of new product ideas sufficient to meet the MWFs and Industrial Lubricants’ Business Plans and Global R&D and Global Product Management Plans
  • Create affiliations, participate in consortia, engage in Global Key Working Groups, as required to support the product development, launch, and ensure the on-going success of the product pipeline

Requirements:

  • BS/MS/PhD in a science degree with 10+ years’ experience formulating waterbased metalworking fluids and at LEAST 5 years in Management of R&D efforts in lubricants, solid understanding of how to work with customer applications and coming up with creative ways to meet their needs
  • Great communicator – can work with non-degreed techs, R&D scientists, VP’s at client companies, can give presentations. Must be able to get up to speed fairly quickly and be self-motivated

  • Must be able to demonstrate a disciplined approach to problem solving, project triage, and stage / gate processing
  • Track record of resourcefulness and creative problem solving
  • Must have experience in product development and demonstrate an aptitude for accurately determining market attractiveness, unmet customer needs
