R&D Project Leader Meat Scientist

Research and Development Project Leader in meat proteins specific to natural, antibiotic free, and organic experience, will be responsible for conducting research aligned with business needs for the purpose of new product development, new process development, process improvement, technical sales support, and troubleshooting.  Provide technical expertise and leadership for new product development for product line growth, process development for new capabilities and cost reduction efforts.

  • The meat product improvement manager will know meats from raw materials through production stage gates and commercialization
  • Meat / poultry for natural, antibiotic free, and organic is highly desired
  • HACCP, meat and nutritional labeling requirements is a plus
  • Sausage, beef ingredients including whole muscle, poultry, pork proteins
  • Provide technical support to the R&D team during commercialization process
  • Provide operational support to production during introduction of new products and processes associated with new products
  • R&D pilot plant experience, up through production
  • 4+ years in industry overall
  • Develop new meat protein products and improve current processes
  • Computer experience – Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or Google (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides)

Requirements:

  • BS in Meat Science or Food Science preferred
  • 5+ years R&D preferred
  • IQF experience needed
  • CPG experience
  • Team player while being a leader
  • Provide project leadership on specific process improvement, cost improvement and new equipment startups
  • Provide insight and direction for R&D on preliminary product specifications, processes and formulations
  • Previous manufacturing experience is preferred working with protein products
  • Must be able to work extended hours and put in what is necessary
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment of continuous change and challenges
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Enthusiasm to keep up with system changes
  • Communicative to plant personnel as well as corporate leaders in company
  • Is proactive to change and challenges in industry for customer trends
