R+D Coating Chemist
Small family-owned chemical manufacturer is seeking a bachelor’s degreed chemist who has experience with automotive coating formulation to join their organization and perform formulation as well as troubleshoot for customers. This is a great opportunity to join a growing group with opportunities for growth! Company covers 95% of benefit costs too!
Innovation role responsible product development to support the company’s core business of custom designed transportation and industrial liquid coatings. Typically, the chemist will focus on specific product line or technology family. The work is varied so independent work as well as teamwork is required.
- Work directly with the end user customer or OEM to develop and/or improve paint formulas to satisfy their needs
- Meet with suppliers and screen raw materials to identify the best candidates to develop projects as well as raw materials offsets in times of scarcity
- Responsible for product scale up/first time batches and resolution of processing issues faced by manufacturing and/or quality control
- Assists the quality department with the investigation of customer complaints and the subsequent generation of corrective action
- Conducts research on current manufactured products to improve product performance utilizing lab notebooks and the LR system
- Paints parts/panels to be used for testing and/or demonstration purposes
- Assist in maintaining a professional, organized laboratory by keeping all laboratory equipment, fixtures, and common work areas clean and orderly

Salary
$80,000 - $85,000

Job Requirements
Technical Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in polymers & coatings technology
- Minimum of 1 year of industry experience formulating coating, or commensurate work experience
- Experience must include bench work in a transportation coating laboratory environment
- Valid operator/driver’s license and Passport
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality systems, with a focus on audits and root cause analysis
- Strong knowledge of quality management systems (QMS) and relevant industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001)
- Proficient in using quality tools and methodologies
- Certified ISO 9001:2015 auditor
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of SAP, Power BI, JMP a plus
- Knowledge regarding coating + paint technology
- Knowledge around Color Technology & Color Matching
- Knowledge regarding Paint test and application methods
- DOE experience
- Knowledge related to Paint Industry-Related regulatory requirement
- Customer specifications & Material approval processes
