Regulatory Manager
Leads Regulatory activity for the company’s branded products, co-manufactured products, and four company owned facilities. Manage a team of four individuals that handle systems information to ensure formulation and product labels are accurate and FDA compliant. Products and Brands with claims and symbols are vetted, approved, and supported by the Regulatory Team. This includes but is not limited to certification submissions and annual audits, as managed appropriately throughout the supply chain. Responsible for product formulation accuracy and label accuracy. Leads the company Regulatory function with information, programs, and/or systems to ensure compliance to regulations and company policies. Work across functions and communicate with all functional and operating groups on matters relating to regulatory topics of importance to the company. This position is responsible for development and implementation of key domestic and international regulatory initiatives.
Essential Duties and Requirements:
- Expertise in formulation structure
- Manage the Specification system
- Develop and maintain Ingredient Specification information and business process
- Technical resource for Rice and Snack Processing
- Manage system and business process for routing and approving label artwork for full compliance with company standards and FDA requirements
- Manage programs including, but not limited to: Kosher, Organic, Whole Grain Council, Gluten Free Certification (GFCO), and Non-GMO Project Verified
- Manage relationships for the aforementioned certification agencies. Represent company during certification audits
- Manage label routing approval business process. Develop and maintain supplier and ingredient approval process by co-leading with Food Safety Quality Assurance (FSQA) team
- Ensure Regulatory business processes support speed to market initiatives
- Collaborate with R&D, Marketing, and Sales functions to ensure accurate and timely information is provided to customers
- Timeline development and task prioritization – individual responsibility required (high level), minimal guidance from Senior Management
- Effectively communicate and contribute at manager level meetings; Marketing/Sales, Production, and Managerial Operations Meetings
- Effective and timely communication of regulatory risks to Senior Management
- Competency and leadership responsibility at level that can guide junior R&D members
- Expand and enhance knowledge base through seminars, educational courses, and training
- Maintain finished formula files. Be able to explain the functionality of ingredients and relationship to other ingredients. Can develop new formulas with no guidance and explain rationale. Resource to others in R&D group for formula development. Can explain issues that arise with formulas through shelf-life studies, etc. based on ingredient and formula functionality
- Is resourceful in finding appropriate business solutions to issues with formulations and processing acceptable to customer demands
- Handle technical inquiries from customers, both industrial and retail
- Manage online customer product information databases as required
- Manage the company Food Defense Plan and chair the committee. Be certified and maintain certification for the coordinator position
- Perform Quality Audits of company and vendor facilities as required
- Participate as assigned on cross functional teams
- Responsible for promoting food safety and employee safety throughout the organization
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has four direct reports. Two Regulatory Documentation Specialists and two Regulatory Specialists.

Job Requirements
Education and/or Experience:
Education:
- BS required in food science, chemical engineering, food engineering, natural sciences with emphasis on and demonstrated history of technical or regulatory expertise
- MS or equivalent experience
- FSMA certifications including PCQI, FSVP, Food Defense
Experience:
- A minimum of three years’ experience in regulatory or technical management position in a CPG (consumer packaged goods) company. Health/Specialty Food background is preferred
- Experience with Kosher and Organic certification in products is preferred
- Product development experience is desirable
