Regulatory Specialist

Position Summary

The Regulatory Specialist will support regulatory compliance activities by developing and maintaining regulatory documentation, responding to technical product inquiries, and ensuring food and flavor products meet applicable regulatory standards and customer requirements. This individual will manage requests of varying complexity and collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders throughout product development and commercialization.

This is a hybrid position requiring three days per week onsite.

Responsibilities

• Regulatory Documentation & Compliance: Develop and maintain regulatory documents ranging from routine to more complex requirements. Complete customer questionnaires and provide timely, accurate responses to technical and regulatory product inquiries.
• Regulatory Data Management: Assist with obtaining, reviewing, organizing, and maintaining regulatory information and documentation provided by raw material suppliers. Ensure data is accurately entered and maintained within designated systems.
• Regulatory Research: Research relevant U.S. and international regulations, industry requirements, and emerging regulatory developments. Assess changes and determine their potential impact on products, processes, and internal compliance.
• Process Improvement & Regulatory Development: Contribute to initiatives designed to improve regulatory processes, programs, and systems. Build advanced knowledge in at least one regulatory discipline and develop the ability to independently manage responsibilities within that area.
• Training & Knowledge Development: Support the training and development of colleagues and share regulatory knowledge and best practices with the broader organization.
• Certification & Audit Support: Assist with internal programs and on-site audits associated with certifications such as Kosher, Halal, Organic, and Fairtrade.
• Customer & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Provide regulatory support throughout new product development and supplier qualification activities. Communicate professionally and effectively with customers and internal partners across R&D, Sales, Procurement, Operations, and Customer Service.
• Sensory Activities: Participate in sensory and organoleptic evaluations as part of the organization’s product development activities.
• Departmental Support: Assist with special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

Salary

$60,000 - $85,000

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific discipline.
• 2+ years of experience in regulatory affairs, preferably within the food, flavor, ingredient, or related industry.
• Knowledge of applicable U.S. federal regulations, including FDA regulations under Title 21 and USDA regulations under Title 7.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements associated with Kosher, Halal, Organic, Fairtrade, and similar certifications is preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
• Experience working with regulatory and business systems such as Product Vision, TraceGains, Microsoft Dynamics 365, and/or Intelligent Authoring is highly preferred.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate technical information to customers and internal stakeholders.
• Experience working cross-functionally with teams such as R&D, Sales, Procurement, Operations, and Customer Service.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to effectively manage competing priorities and deadlines.
• Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to evaluate regulatory questions, identify potential risks, and develop logical solutions with limited guidance.
• Flexible and collaborative approach with a strong interest in continued learning and professional development.
