Research Scientist, New Product and Application Development

The primary focus will be on developing and commercializing new or existing fluorinated products in non-emissive applications to support business growth.  Will focus externally on customers and development partners to identify new market-back opportunities for company products and capabilities.  Will initiate and lead R&D projects aimed at developing innovative uses for new or existing fluorochemicals based on unmet marketplace needs.

*Embrace company safety culture by actively participating in departmental safety program, ensuring safe laboratory operations and utilizing all relevant safety processes

*Drive new product development including chemical synthesis and application development for non-emissive end uses

*Design and set up laboratory equipment, analyze results, and recommend courses of action based on the project timeline and available chemical and engineering information

*Interact with customers to understand marketplace needs, identify key issues and ensure critical to qualify performance criteria are understood

*Participate in a stage gated project management process as team leader or team member

*Develop networks with other scientists and engineers, both within company and externally, to overcome issues, find solutions, and achieve objectives

*Collaborate with external partners to leverage technology

*Provide monthly and quarterly reports on the status and impact of key projects; present work internally and externally

*Actively monitor the relevant scientific and patent literature

*Protect company's intellectual property and generate intellectual property when applicable

Requirements:

*PhD in Chemistry or related field with a minimum of 5 years of industrial experience

*Background in organic or organometallic synthesis with an understanding of analytical chemistry

*Experience in safe handling of highly toxic materials and/or highly hazardous processes in preferred

*Excellent written and oral communication skills

*Strong interpersonal skills with a track record of collaboration, networking and teamwork

*Self-starting ability with exceptional time and project management skills
